first_img The dispute over AMC tokenized stocks is spreading, with intense debates in the industry about three issuance models

According to The Defiant, the dispute between AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron and Robinhood over tokenized AMC stock has escalated into a debate among tokenized stock issuers about which model should become the industry standard.Gabriel Otte, co-founder of Dinari, criticized Robinhood's synthetic tokens with Ondo as "worse for end investors than regular stocks," while Uniswap founder Hayden Adams compared it to early stablecoins, stating that it meets users' demands for programmability and 24/7 trading.Currently, three models are competing in the $2.91 billion tokenized stock market: Robinhood's stock tokens are debt securities issued by a Jersey entity, available only to non-U.S. persons; Ondo, xStocks, and Dinari hold the underlying stocks through regulated intermediaries and pass on economic benefits; Securitize and Superstate directly put company-registered stocks on-chain. The U.S. SEC's Division of Corporation Finance has legally defined the three models as of January 28. Data from rwa.xyz shows that the total scale of tokenized stocks reaches $2.91 billion, with a 14.4% growth over 30 days, and Ondo leads with $869.6 million.Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo also supports Aron's position, stating that he does not wish for others to create offshore derivatives of company stocks. Brian Huang, co-founder of Glider, believes that the trading venue is more important than the packaging format, as AMMs cannot guarantee users the best execution.

first_img Bitcoin's correlation with gold has risen to a six-year high, Bitwise states that depreciation hedging trades are making a comeback

Bitwise's latest report shows that the correlation between Bitcoin and gold has risen to a six-year high. Bitwise's Head of Research for Europe, André Dragosch, stated that the last time the correlation reached this level was in 2020, during the period of multiple fiscal and monetary stimulus following the COVID-19 pandemic; meanwhile, the correlation between Bitcoin and the stock market has dropped to a one-year low, suggesting a decoupling between hard assets and the stock market. The report believes that the simultaneous rise of Bitcoin and gold is due to the "substantial intervention in the macro picture" by the U.S. government. Last month, the U.S. Treasury announced it would more than double the scale of government debt buybacks, leading to a weakening of the dollar, and investors flocked back to gold and Bitcoin; in the same week, U.S. public debt surpassed $40 trillion for the first time, further undermining market confidence in the dollar. Bitwise stated that investors are no longer entangled in whether to hedge against currency depreciation with gold or Bitcoin, but are holding both simultaneously, and pointed out that "Bitcoin has been priced as a risk asset for its first fifteen years, and if this correlation trend continues, the next fifteen years could be very different."Driven by this, Bitcoin rose again this week, increasing nearly 6% within 24 hours, with the price briefly approaching $81,438.

The cryptocurrency industry is once again debating "who should hold the private keys" due to the $130 million theft case involving the Coldcard wallet

A wallet security incident involving approximately $130 million in Bitcoin losses is reigniting discussions in the crypto industry about asset custody models: should Bitcoin holders rely on personal self-custody or turn to institutional custody? Hardware wallet manufacturer Coldcard had a vulnerability in its firmware in 2021 that led to some mnemonic phrases generated by the device being predictably risky. This vulnerability was discovered years later, and approximately 5,200 addresses and about 2,000 BTC have been stolen, with losses amounting to around $130 million. After the incident, some investors began to turn to Wall Street custody products. Data shows that the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF saw a net inflow of about $626 million within days of the incident. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas stated that such security incidents could further drive funds into ETFs. However, the Bitcoin core community still insists on the self-custody concept. Casa co-founder Jameson Lopp stated that recent events should not undermine users' confidence in self-custody and pointed out that third-party custody also carries risks. Bitcoin Core early developer Peter Todd also believes that self-custody has a better long-term safety record than centralized institutions.Onramp co-founder Michael Tanguma believes that both options have flaws. He stated that concentrating a large amount of assets in a single institution creates a "honey pot," while hardware wallets face risks related to supply chains, firmware, and random number generation. Tanguma proposed a "multi-institution custody" solution, where multiple regulated institutions hold keys through a multi-signature mechanism, requiring multiple institutions to jointly sign any transaction to reduce single points of failure. However, this model has also sparked controversy. Critics argue that while multi-institution custody enhances security, it also introduces permissioned management, conflicting with the decentralized ideals originally pursued by Bitcoin. As Bitcoin gradually enters the fields of pensions, trusts, and institutional asset allocation, the industry is seeking new custody solutions suitable for long-term wealth management. The Coldcard vulnerability incident once again highlights that achieving a balance between security, decentralization, and usability remains a core challenge facing the Bitcoin ecosystem.
