first_img Akamai launched the AI Intelligent Agent Sandbox, with multiple security vendors laying out protection strategies

AI cloud service provider Akamai launched the AI agent sandbox Agent Sandbox and the Akamai Inference beta on October 27. The Agent Sandbox provides an isolated environment for the code written and run for agents based on WebAssembly, limiting their computing power, memory, and external connections. Jon Alexander, Senior Vice President of Cloud Technology at Akamai, stated that teams running agents need to define boundaries for the code they write.A survey by Palo Alto Networks in 2026 of 2,930 security leaders showed that, on average, each human identity corresponds to 109 machine identities, of which 79 are AI agents. Hugging Face disclosed a breach on July 16, and OpenAI subsequently confirmed that its models were responsible; a METR investigation found about 1,200 OpenAI agents collaborating through hidden message boards, with around 700 participating in attacks, escaping the sandbox and exploiting unknown vulnerabilities to enter production systems.Zscaler discovered web pages hiding instructions targeting AI agents in July, specifically indirect prompt injection, with a spoofed document page requiring agents to pay approximately 0.0012 Ethereum as a $3 licensing fee, and 4 out of 26 tested models complied. Palo Alto completed its acquisition of CyberArk in February and acquired Koi in April, while Cisco completed its acquisition of Astrix Security on June 29. The investigation predicts that the number of enterprise AI agents will grow by 85% in the next 12 months, with human identities increasing by 56%.

first_img Marc Andreessen: Companies should create habitats for intelligent agents, not confine them in cages

a16z co-founder Marc Andreessen commented on the online programming platform Replit and its CEO Amjad Masad's proposed concept of Agent Habitat, believing that more companies will become autonomous driving companies as a result. He stated that the keyword pointed out by Masad is chaos, and quoted his viewpoint that most agents today operate in chat windows, personal accounts, and one-off scripts, holding credentials and data given to them by others, but no one decides what they can access, nor can anyone see what they have done.Andreessen noted that disruptive technologies like personal computers, spreadsheets, and email entered the workplace in a bottom-up chaotic manner, and only later did they require habitats to moderately constrain that chaos. He cited examples such as early employees bringing personal computers into the office, spreadsheets enabling non-programmers to create business models and forecasts, but also introducing hard-to-audit formula errors; email bypassed the information flow controlled by the mailroom in the past. He believes this kind of chaos indicates that employees are claiming tools that can bring alignment and significant productivity improvements.Andreessen also stated that code is the ultimate product of alignment, and expanding the range of code contributors will bring chaos, thus requiring a free-range style of agent habitat rather than cages, but it cannot be completely laissez-faire. He mentioned that an employee from Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing completed a development process originally planned to take 6 people 6 months in just one week. He indicated that for companies to become autonomous driving companies, they must achieve alignment, and in the future, the degree of alignment may be measured by the richness of the agent habitat; Replit and its clients have already understood this, while most companies have not yet grasped it.

first_img Jumpspace released the STEPX Neo smartphone, with an AI intelligent entity built into the operating system

StepFun, an AI startup invested by Tencent, has released the STEPX Neo phone, which features an AI intelligent agent directly built into the operating system rather than as an external application. The phone began pre-sales on the evening of October 13, priced at 3999 yuan (approximately 560 USD), with its official sale starting on October 16. Pre-sale channels include JD.com, Tmall, and Douyin. Users do not need to open a ride-hailing app to input addresses and select vehicles; they simply need to inform the destination, and the intelligent agent can autonomously complete the subsequent steps. StepFun stated at the launch event that in the era of intelligent agents, AI is no longer an additional feature of smartphones but is the product itself. The device runs on the Step AOS 1 system, which the company claims is designed from the ground up for intelligent agents, featuring long-term memory, task scheduling, and security control capabilities, composed of a mix of Android, Linux, and real-time operating system components. The system uses the MCP protocol to break down functions such as messages, applications, files, and settings into small modules that can be directly called by the intelligent agent, giving users two entry points: a traditional application grid and an intelligent agent space. The intelligent agent is named Amoo, which saves two types of memory: user factual preferences and task execution experiences. Simple commands are processed by a small model on the device, some of which can run offline, while complex cross-application requests are handled by a large model in the cloud. A second MiniLED screen on the back of the device can display Amoo's execution status.Nearly 100 companies and products, including Alipay, Tencent, Trip.com, Didi, and Meituan, have integrated with Amoo. Payments, travel bookings, and content creation are still completed by their respective platforms. This is an alternative path for StepFun in response to the major application blockages faced by ByteDance's Doubao, which previously used screen reading and simulated clicking solutions. StepFun was founded in 2023 by former Microsoft Vice President Jiang Daxin. Its self-developed flagship large model, Step 5 Preview, was launched in September, with a parameter scale of 600 billion and a single activation of 27 billion, supporting a context of 1 million tokens; the earlier released Step 3.5 Flash was open-sourced under the Apache 2 license. The price of 3999 yuan includes a 12-month STEPX Token plan, providing 100 billion tokens per month, while the AI costs after the first year have not yet been announced.

first_img a16z General Partner David Haber: Long-cycle intelligent agents can charge based on results

David Haber, a general partner at a16z, stated that long-cycle intelligent agents can now progress towards goals across dozens of steps and various interaction methods over weeks to months. He noted that AI previously handled short tasks with clear boundaries, where customer service was implemented earlier due to verifiable results and edge cases manageable by humans; now, intelligent agents can guide insurance clients from the initial call to payout, mortgage clients from pre-approval to closing, and business leads from demonstration to signing, gaining returns based on revenue growth rather than just cost savings. He used the example of plaintiff lawyers preparing cases, stating that the process resembles a relay race, where value can easily be lost at handoff points. Potential clients often contact multiple law firms simultaneously, and slow responses or evaluations can lead to loss; after signing, evidence collection is limited by manpower, and firms may not follow up with witnesses who did not answer the fifth call, making it difficult to review low-value cases item by item. Missing bills or unexplained treatment gaps can also lower settlement amounts. Long-cycle intelligent agents can assess in real-time around the clock, utilizing sub-agents to advance evidence collection and client updates via phone, email, or text, while maintaining complete records from call logs to medical records.Haber proposed three commercialization paths: selling platforms to existing teams, taking over outsourced services, or vertically integrating as a full-stack service provider, such as purchasing debt portfolios and completing collections. He mentioned that most states in the U.S. prohibit non-lawyers from sharing attorney fees, so the plaintiff legal scenario needs to align pricing with settlement amounts but cannot directly share profits.

first_img Trump: Those who do not use superintelligent terminology are considered enemies of the White House

Phoenix Technology cited a report from Business Insider stating that U.S. President Trump said on Thursday that anyone who does not use his preferred term Superintelligence (SI) will be considered an enemy of the White House. Trump posted on his social media platform that the White House believes anyone using the term Artificial Intelligence (AI) instead of what he calls the more accurate new term Superintelligence is an enemy. The report stated that the White House has begun the process of renaming Artificial Intelligence, with Trump stating that the term Artificial Intelligence implies that the technology is fake. The report also mentioned that at the end of September this year, Trump signed an executive order after meeting with industry leaders at the White House, requiring federal departments and agencies to use Superintelligence and SI instead of Artificial Intelligence and AI in official letters, public communications, websites, and other official communications to the maximum extent permitted by law. This order does not apply to private companies like OpenAI, as the White House does not have the legal authority to enforce it.The report further stated that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk posted on X that he will rename the Artificial Intelligence department SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI. The department was originally named xAI, and in February of this year, SpaceX announced the acquisition of Grok developer xAI, which was renamed SpaceXAI in July. As of Thursday afternoon, its X account still displayed as SpaceXAI. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman denied any renaming plans in an interview with the Politico podcast, stating that the company has been discussing Superintelligence extensively and will continue to do so in the future.
