Bitcoin News: The U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act will enter committee voting on Wednesday
The U.S. House Financial Services Committee plans to review H.R. 8957, the "2026 U.S. Reserve Modernization Act," on September 16, 2026 (Wednesday), and the bill will enter the committee voting process.
The bill was introduced by Congressman Nick Begich, with Jared Golden as the only Democratic co-sponsor. It aims to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and create a separate digital asset reserve for non-Bitcoin assets. The bill stipulates that Bitcoin obtained through confiscation will be included in the reserves, and funds from the sale or exchange of non-Bitcoin assets can be used to purchase more Bitcoin or pay off national debt. The Treasury and Commerce Departments will also explore strategies to acquire more Bitcoin in a budget-neutral manner over the next five years, with provisions explicitly stating that funding for purchases cannot come from borrowing, new taxes, or deficit spending. The committee's review is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Eastern Time on Wednesday.
