first_img U.S. Bank completes USBDC stablecoin real-time cross-border payment test

According to CoinDesk, U.S. Bank, the fifth largest commercial bank in the United States (a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp), announced the successful completion of a real-time cross-border payment test based on its own US dollar stablecoin USBDC, with transactions completed via the Stellar blockchain between its entities in North America and Europe. As one of the first bank-issued stablecoins deployed on a public blockchain, USBDC is expected to bridge the gap in the global banking system with 24/7 trading capabilities. The pilot validated the functions of USBDC, including minting, payment redemption, freezing, and recovery, and tested the bank's internally developed digital asset platform, which serves as the foundation for issuing, managing, and transferring tokenized assets, enabling seamless integration between traditional banking infrastructure and blockchain networks. U.S. Bank Chairman and CEO Gunjan Kedia stated that this real-time pilot demonstrates its ability to accelerate global cash management and fund flows. This test is based on the bank's strategic partnership with the Stellar Development Foundation, with future application scenarios including liquidity management, collateral transfer, and cross-border financial operations. As global stablecoin regulation advances, banks are accelerating their entry into the market. Last week, 21 financial institutions, including Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, and UBS, announced plans to form a company to issue stablecoins, with the expectation of launching a dollar token in the first half of 2027.

AI computing power financing is heating up, and Lambda, supported by Nvidia, plans to purchase GPUs through a $917 million loan

Lambda, an AI cloud computing service provider supported by Nvidia, is financing $917 million through the leveraged loan market to procure AI chips. As the construction of artificial intelligence infrastructure accelerates, chip financing is becoming a new way for capital investment in the AI industry. Lambda belongs to the rapidly developing "new cloud vendor" camp in recent years, with its main business being to provide GPU computing power and AI infrastructure services to enterprises and developers. This financing plan will be completed through a loan based on GPU asset-related rights, aimed at supporting the company's expansion of AI computing resources. Reports indicate that AI infrastructure companies are actively exploring new financing methods to meet the enormous capital investment required for building large-scale computing clusters. Previously, AI cloud service provider CoreWeave completed the first transaction in the institutional leveraged loan market for chip financing, providing a new financing model for the industry. As the demand for generative AI continues to grow, Nvidia's GPU supply has become a core resource for AI companies' expansion. By using GPU assets as the basis for financing, AI cloud service providers can rapidly scale their computing power without fully relying on equity financing, while also allowing the traditional credit market to participate in the wave of AI infrastructure investment.

The stablecoin company Boundary will launch a verifiable institutional-grade stablecoin USBD

According to market news, Boundary Labs, a stablecoin startup led by Galaxy Ventures under Galaxy Digital, announced that it is preparing to launch an institutional stablecoin USBD and has completed a $2 million seed pre-financing.It was introduced that this round of financing also attracted participation from institutions such as First Block Capital and BlackWood. Boundary Labs was founded by former Deutsche Bank and Digital Currency Group executive Matthew Mezger. USBD will be deployed on the Ethereum network, focusing on the concept of "verifiable stablecoins," attempting to reduce the reliance of traditional stablecoins on off-chain audits and trust mechanisms through continuous on-chain verification of reserves, net asset value (NAV), and protocol operational status. The project team stated that USBD is designed with over-collateralization and hedging strategies to reduce market volatility risks and shift the stablecoin infrastructure from a "trust-driven" model to a "verifiable financial system." Additionally, Boundary plans to launch a staking token sUSBD for distributing protocol earnings under a delta-neutral DeFi strategy, but USBD itself does not provide yield functionality. The team indicated that the protocol is primarily aimed at asset management institutions, hedge funds, and family offices, and plans to officially launch the mainnet in early summer 2026.

Nominee for the Governor of the Bank of Korea: CBDC and deposit tokens should become the core of the digital currency ecosystem

According to a report by the Korea Herald, the nominee for the governor of the Bank of Korea, Shin Hyun-sung, stated in a written response during a personnel hearing at the National Assembly that central bank digital currency (CBDC) and commercial bank deposit tokens based on its issuance should become the core of the digital currency ecosystem. Shin Hyun-sung expressed basic support for the introduction of a Korean won stablecoin but emphasized that maintaining trust in the currency is the most important.Regarding the issuing entity of the Korean won stablecoin, he believes that South Korea is not a reserve currency country, and compliance capability is crucial. Therefore, he suggested prioritizing the issuance by a bank-centered alliance, allowing non-bank institutions to participate, and gradually expanding later. Shin Hyun-sung holds a cautious attitude towards the claim that stablecoins can enhance foreign exchange trading efficiency, believing that it is still unclear whether blockchain can comply with capital and foreign exchange regulations. He also stated that crypto assets, including stablecoins, have failed to meet the core functions of currency such as a measure of value, medium of exchange, and store of value, asserting that crypto assets cannot replace fiat currency.
