first_img Blockstream executive Peter Bain: Institutional clients are optimistic about the Bitcoin bull market

Blockstream Chief Marketing Officer Peter Bain stated in a recent interview that Bitcoin has maintained the $81,000 mark amid stock market sell-offs, rising 10-year U.S. Treasury yields, and turmoil in Europe, which he described as "a very, very strong signal." He made this statement during a conversation with Grace Remington and Sean Hagan.Bain emphasized that technological development precedes price and discussed topics such as adoption, stablecoins, and tokenized stocks. He introduced Blockstream's new center established in Lugano and a new consulting department aimed at institutional clients, while explaining why treasury companies are mainly concentrated in the United States and why Switzerland will become the next market—Switzerland's clear regulatory framework and strong banking foundation make it an ideal launch market.Regarding quantum computing, Bain believes that the related threats will take decades to materialize, and that Bitcoin's real weaknesses lie elsewhere. He referenced the PHP vulnerability incident, stating that the industry needs to rethink the way software is released, and introduced Blockstream's research on quantum-resistant signature solutions, how consensus can be reached for quantum upgrades, and the Bitcoin Security Alliance. Additionally, he provided the first update on the Liquid Network event progress: the exchange service has been restored, the network is back online, and users can transfer Bitcoin back to the main chain. Looking ahead to 2027, Bain stated that institutional clients believe Bitcoin "is expected to usher in a major bull market."

first_img Blockstream launched institutional consulting services and established an office in Lugano, Switzerland

Bitcoin infrastructure company Blockstream announced the launch of consulting services for financial institutions and established an office in Lugano, Switzerland. This business enables banks, asset management institutions, and others to directly connect with Blockstream's engineering team and Bitcoin infrastructure. Blockstream Consulting Services will assist institutions in assessing, designing, and implementing Bitcoin-based financial infrastructure, as well as developing related solutions such as tokenized asset issuance and confidential settlements, covering areas such as technology strategy, system architecture, integration, and implementation.Blockstream stated that the Lugano office will serve Swiss clients, including those in Zurich, Geneva, and Zug, and will act as its European business hub, supporting client relationships, strategic partnerships, and collaboration with local financial and technology communities. The company's Chief Marketing Officer Peter Bain stated that Switzerland has a long-standing banking tradition and a regulatory framework supporting digital assets, making it an important market for Blockstream; the company aims to provide local expertise in markets where it sees demand for Bitcoin infrastructure, and the consulting business along with the Lugano office will bring customized Bitcoin solutions to European financial institutions.Founded in 2014, Blockstream's business covers Bitcoin custody, settlement, payments, asset issuance, and self-custody, with products including the sidechain Liquid Network, Elements, Simplicity, Core Lightning, Jade hardware wallet, and Blockstream App. The company has launched Simplicity smart contracts on the Liquid network and added Lightning Network support for the Jade hardware wallet. Co-founder and CEO Adam Back stated that the next phase of Bitcoin adoption is to integrate into the existing financial system, and the company's experience in Bitcoin cryptography, protocol development, and engineering can address the related complexities. This announcement did not disclose the pricing of the consulting services, the size of the Lugano office's staff, or the names of clients.

first_img Core Lightning warns that old version nodes are under attack and urges operators to upgrade immediately

The Core Lightning team, which develops the open-source Bitcoin Lightning Network node software, has issued an urgent alert stating that reports indicate attackers are targeting nodes that have not installed patches, urging operators still running old versions to upgrade immediately. The team stated: "Emergency security update: If you are using version 26.06.7 or earlier, please upgrade to the latest release as soon as possible."Prior to this, Core Lightning began investigating a potential issue that could affect its experimental features and, in turn, impact user funds on September 16, and approximately six days later, version 26.06.8 was released. This update not only fixed several defects but also provided patches for security vulnerabilities reported responsibly by multiple parties, thanking the Bitcoin Red Team and 12 other individuals and organizations in the release notes, while also acknowledging anonymous reporters.According to the changelog, this round of fixes covers a bug that could cause sender nodes to crash, requests that could exhaust REST interface memory, and a vulnerability that could result in user funds facing confiscation losses when closing payment channels. To provide operators with ample upgrade windows and prevent attackers from taking advantage of reverse engineering and exploitation, this version intentionally obscured some testing content. Additionally, in August of this year, the project initiated a collaborative fixing process after reviewing a large number of AI-generated general vulnerability disclosure reports, and two days later released version 26.06.7 to close confirmed vulnerabilities.

Blockstream CEO: The inflow of institutional funds into Bitcoin is slower than expected, and building positions may take 12 to 18 months

Some observers view Morgan Stanley's entry into the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF earlier this month as a catalyst to end the current crypto bear market, citing the large distribution capability of the Wall Street giant's $8 trillion wealth advisory network. However, Blockstream CEO and early Bitcoin community contributor Adam Back stated that "it won't happen that quickly."Back was recently speculated by The New York Times to be the anonymous Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, which he denied. Back indicated that from a positive market signal perspective, the Bitcoin ETF could be the most significant development in recent times, even more important than a pro-crypto U.S. government, but this process is slower than most people realize.Back stated, "I think one thing people might be miscalculating is that institutional adoption is very slow. So the ETF has been bought, but when BlackRock suggested allocating 2% to 4% in its general stock portfolio, fund managers had not done that yet. They will, but slower than people expect." He mentioned that investors will not rush in overnight, and the accumulation process could take a year or even 18 months.Regarding prices, Back noted that the cyclical nature of Bitcoin's four-year halving cycle needs to be considered. He pointed out that even if some commentators believe the four-year cycle is breaking down, "people expect it to happen, so they sell to make it actually happen," and a decline could still occur. This logic will only change when people see the market strengthen, which is currently manifesting in the form of institutional capital inflows.Back stated that regarding recent comments about the accelerated development of quantum computing hardware potentially threatening Bitcoin's cryptography, institutions are more systematic in risk management and will focus on tail risks, while retail investors view it as a distant future risk.
