Block gave away 1 Bitcoin at ComplexCon, valued at approximately 85,000 US dollars
Financial technology company Block, founded by Jack Dorsey, gifted a participant at the ComplexCon event in Los Angeles with 1 Bitcoin, which was valued at approximately $85,000 at the time. Block participated in this annual event organized by Complex Networks to introduce Bitcoin to new users through "culture, shopping, and entertainment."Block's Cash App set up a fishing game booth called "Lightning Lake" at the event, where participants could win small amounts of Bitcoin, and one player caught a whole Bitcoin. Maria Pesce, Block's Bitcoin marketing lead, stated that the goal is to make Bitcoin approachable, tangible, and fun, "so that people can go from never having used Bitcoin to making payments with it while walking around the lake." She mentioned that Block's aim is to make Bitcoin a daily currency.Block has long promoted Bitcoin adoption through its products: Cash App allows users to send, receive, and buy Bitcoin, while Square's point-of-sale systems accept Bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network. The company, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, also launched an advertising campaign this month to encourage people to use Bitcoin as a medium of exchange. Dorsey left Twitter in 2021 to focus on payment and Bitcoin adoption and has repeatedly expressed his desire for Bitcoin to become a global currency and "everyday money." During the event, Kanye West's daughter North West was also spotted trying to fish for Bitcoin with rapper French Montana at Lightning Lake.
