The daily trading volume of South Korea's five major cryptocurrency exchanges has plummeted by 88% in a year, forcing Korbit to sell assets to maintain operations

According to the Korea JoongAng Daily, the daily trading volume of South Korea's five major won virtual asset exchanges totals approximately 412.7 billion won, a decrease of 88% compared to a year ago. The total market value of global virtual assets has also shrunk by 41% to $2.322 trillion. The country's leading cryptocurrency firm Dunamu reported a year-on-year decline in revenue and operating profit of 55% and 78%, respectively, in the first quarter.Small and medium-sized exchanges are in an even more difficult situation, with Coinone, Korbit, and Gopax, which recorded operating losses last year, expected to continue losing money this year. Korbit has sold its holdings three times this year, selling 15 bitcoins and 60 ethers within ten days this month, generating approximately 1.6 billion won in cash. A director from Tiger Research stated that the current situation can be seen as a "second crypto winter," with the total market value of cryptocurrencies significantly shrinking and new projects almost nonexistent.Despite the market downturn, institutions are accelerating their adoption of blockchain, focusing on tokenized assets and stablecoins. Major brokerages like Future Asset have recently acquired shares in exchanges, and the government has repeatedly expressed its determination to advance the legislation of the "Digital Asset Basic Law," reflecting a continued optimism about medium- to long-term growth potential.

WasabiCard featured in a special report by Forbes, focusing on the development opportunities of stablecoin payment infrastructure

The global stablecoin payment infrastructure platform WasabiCard has been featured in a special report by Forbes, which discusses the challenges faced by stablecoin payments in becoming mainstream applications and includes an interview with WasabiCard co-founder and CEO Ray Yang. The report points out that as stablecoin applications gradually extend from crypto trading to real business scenarios such as corporate payments and cross-border settlements, the underlying payment infrastructure is becoming a key driver of industry development. In the interview, Ray Yang stated: "At this stage, the development of stablecoin payments still faces dual challenges in technology and regulation. From a technical perspective, the core issue is no longer the transfer of funds itself; rather, the key lies in licensing qualifications, compliance systems, risk management capabilities, and banking network capabilities."Ray Yang further pointed out that the key to achieving large-scale commercialization of stablecoin payments does not lie in the payment capability itself, but in whether a global infrastructure can be built to connect digital assets with the traditional financial system. As a global stablecoin payment infrastructure platform, WasabiCard continues to focus on the global payment network, compliance systems, and enterprise-level payment capabilities, committed to promoting the widespread application of stablecoins in real business scenarios. This special report by Forbes reflects the ongoing attention of international mainstream financial media to the development trends of stablecoin payment infrastructure and indirectly highlights the growing importance of compliance and the value of building scalable global payment networks in the market.

first_img Forbes: The technology of stablecoins has matured, but compliance and localized infrastructure are the real bottlenecks for large-scale adoption

According to Forbes, although the trading volume of stablecoins has exceeded $1 trillion in the past year, most activities are still concentrated in the crypto-native space (trading, arbitrage, and inter-protocol settlement), with limited applications in everyday commercial payments. WasabiCard CEO Ray Yang pointed out that the transfer of funds is no longer the core issue; licensing, compliance, risk management, and banking capabilities are the key foundations for achieving widespread adoption.Forbes noted that while stablecoin settlement can significantly enhance cross-border payment efficiency, each market has different compliance standards, licensing requirements, and banking relationships, making the construction of localized compliance in each market both slow and expensive, which contradicts the instant global settlement that stablecoins advocate. Currently, the stablecoin market has surpassed $320 billion, and industry discussions are shifting from whether stablecoins can replace existing networks to how they can be integrated into existing networks.Forbes believes that the challenge of the last decade was to get funds flowing, while the challenge of this decade is to ensure that global payments operate in compliance and at scale within a fragmented regulatory environment.

The auditing platform Code4rena has announced its shutdown, and Immunefi will absorb its bug bounty clients and researchers

According to official news, the smart contract auditing platform Code4rena has announced that it will gradually cease operations, and the Web3 security company Immunefi will take over its clients and security researchers. Code4rena posted on social media that it has made the decision to shut down and stated that all ongoing competitions and bounty activities will be completed as usual, and existing collaborations will be "properly concluded." Immunefi stated that it will assist in migrating Code4rena's bounty projects, reward structures, and researchers to its platform.Code4rena is known for its "competitive auditing" model, where independent researchers compete to find vulnerabilities in smart contracts for rewards. This shutdown comes less than two years after blockchain security company Zellic acquired Code4rena in 2024. Previously, Code4rena raised $6 million from Paradigm in 2023 for auditing incentives and platform expansion. This shutdown comes at a difficult time for DeFi protocols and the security sector. Data from DefiLlama shows that there were over 20 crypto vulnerability incidents in April alone, setting a monthly record. JPMorgan analysts believe that ongoing DeFi security incidents are limiting major institutional investors from entering the market. Meanwhile, the total value locked in DeFi has decreased from about $160 billion in October to approximately $83 billion currently.
