first_img Micron grants the highest bonuses in history, and the Taiwanese union states it will continue to push for strikes

Micron announced today that it will distribute compensation for the 2026 fiscal year to over 60,000 employees worldwide to recognize the company's achievements this year, marking the highest compensation in Micron's history. Taiwan is a key hub for Micron's global technology leadership, with approximately 15,000 employees and a total investment exceeding NT$1.6 trillion. In Taiwan, the 2026 fiscal year compensation includes a cash bonus of NT$1 million for each employee who joined before August 29, 2025, with subsequent hires receiving bonuses proportional to their duration of employment; an annual performance bonus that can reach up to 500% of the basic target; and additional stock compensation. Production line employees in Taiwan will receive total compensation equivalent to 35 to 68 months of salary. The cash compensation for Micron employees in Taiwan for the 2026 fiscal year will start at NT$1.7 million; entry-level engineers will have an average cash compensation of NT$2.9 million, with an average total compensation of NT$3.4 million after including stock compensation calculated at grant value. The annual performance adjustment stock compensation will cover 100%.Regarding Micron's announcement without reaching a consensus with the union, the union stated after collecting member opinions: grassroots members demand institutional reform and equal negotiation, calling for a change in the IPP profit-sharing system to a 15% profit-sharing system, stating that one-time bonuses cannot solve the issue, and hope to establish a calculation basis directly linked to the company's actual profits. If there is no response, the union will continue to move towards a strike. The Ministry of Labor stated that it has fully grasped the relevant information and continues to maintain close contact with the Taoyuan City Government, the Central Science Park Administration, and the Taichung City Government.

first_img Samsung Electronics is developing AI glasses with a display, expected to be released in the second half of 2027 at the earliest

According to the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily, Samsung Electronics has begun developing its first AI glasses equipped with a display. This product not only provides audio functionality but also displays colorful visual information on the lenses, similar to the Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses.Industry insiders revealed that Samsung Electronics is considering developing an ultra-small screen with a size of only 0.2 inches or smaller for the AI glasses, and last month assigned this R&D task to Samsung Display, outlining requirements regarding product dimensions, information display area, color, and price. Samsung Electronics is currently evaluating candidate panel solutions such as OLEDoS or LEDoS, and the industry expects this product to be released in the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028.Currently, the specific details of the glasses have not been finalized. In terms of color display, Samsung Electronics is expected to use a limited grayscale with 4-bit color instead of a high-definition screen, and it has not yet decided whether to adopt a binocular or monocular design. Industry insiders indicate that RGB OLEDoS faces challenges in terms of price and yield, and it is likely that a white OLEDoS panel will be launched. Samsung previously released AI glasses without a display, co-developed by Samsung Electronics, Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker.

first_img U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen strongly urged the Senate to pass the Clarity Act

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted on the X platform, strongly urging the Senate to advance the legislative process of the cryptocurrency Clarity Act after the August recess. He stated that the bill would prevent "bad actors" from exploiting important digital asset technologies and called on all parties to stay at the negotiating table, agree to procedural motions, and continue the legislative process.Bessent warned that failing to pass the bill would send a troubling signal to allies and adversaries, indicating that the U.S. is unwilling to lead the future of digital assets and is willing to forgo national security tools to combat the abuse of digital assets. In July of this year, Bessent stated that if one wants to stand on the side of "American exceptionalism," the Clarity Act must be passed, citing remarks from Satoshi Nakamoto. The Clarity Act was passed by the House last year and aims to establish a regulatory framework that clearly delineates the regulatory classification of digital assets as securities, commodities, or stablecoins. The bill has stalled this year due to disagreements between banking lobbyists and cryptocurrency companies over stablecoin revenue issues. A new draft in July prohibits government officials from promoting cryptocurrencies or profiting from them, but some Democrats still believe the bill is inadequate and demand amendments. President Trump also urged lawmakers to push the bill through.
