Bitwise: Bitcoin's implied volatility has dropped to a three-year low, and long-term holders continue to distribute chips

Bitwise released a report indicating that Bitcoin is currently holding resiliently around $82,000, a price level close to the spot ETF holding cost. Key support levels below include the short-term holder cost price of approximately $74,800 and the real market average of about $77,600. The former can serve as a reference for judging the short-term market direction, while the latter corresponds to the price level at which half of the invested capital in the market is in profit or loss. The price range formed by these two points may become the dividing line between bulls and bears.The trading range for Bitcoin over the past 30 days and 60 days has narrowed to 1.8% and 3.0%, respectively, with the implied volatility at-the-money for each term also approaching the lower end of the distribution range over the past three years. Among them, the 3-month and 6-month implied volatility are at the 0.8 and 0.2 percentiles of historical distribution, indicating that the market's pricing for future volatility has dropped to extremely low levels.So far this week, net inflows into U.S. Bitcoin spot ETFs have reached $1.074 billion, rising in sync with the cumulative trading volume of the spot market, providing support for Bitcoin prices and offsetting some macro pressures. However, realized profits in the market have also increased, particularly among long-term holders. Meanwhile, the net position change indicator for long-term holders is negative, suggesting they may be in a distribution phase, which could be one reason for the ongoing consolidation of Bitcoin prices.

Bitwise and Hyperliquid request the SEC to amend cryptocurrency regulations: focusing on token classification, airdrops, and secondary market trading

The asset management company Bitwise Asset Management and the Hyperliquid Policy Center submitted a comment letter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), requesting modifications to the proposed cryptocurrency rules to clarify token classification, airdrops, and secondary market trading rules. The SEC's proposed Regulation Crypto Assets would establish exemptions for eligible cryptocurrency financing and provide a conditional safe harbor for tokens related to investment contracts.Bitwise requested clarification on the standards for investment managers to determine whether tokens are subject to securities laws. The Hyperliquid Policy Center called for an expansion of the safe harbor scope and clarification of the rules for airdrops and token buybacks that reward network participants. The organization also requested that the SEC clarify whether unregistered intermediaries can facilitate token trading and whether tokens can be freely traded through on-chain protocols. Former SEC enforcement official John Reed Stark and Duke University finance scholar Lee Reiners called for the proposal to be withdrawn, arguing that it exceeds the SEC's statutory authority and undermines investor protection. The SEC will decide to amend, adopt, or withdraw the rules after the public comment period ends, and the final rules must be voted on by the commission before taking effect.

first_img The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has approved the first Bitcoin ETF aimed at retail investors, but the issuer has not disclosed the details

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has approved the country's first Bitcoin ETF aimed at retail investors. This product falls under "other alternative investment funds" according to Swiss law and is labeled as having special risks. FINMA did not disclose the issuer of the fund, but multiple media outlets have indicated that signs suggest it may come from BIT Asset Management (formerly Matrixport Asset Management), and FINMA did not deny this claim in response to inquiries. Additionally, several fund providers have submitted or announced plans to submit Bitcoin ETF applications.The fund is a single-asset product, with all funds directed towards Bitcoin. To this end, FINMA needed to grant an exemption regarding its risk diversification rules, citing that Bitcoin has a long trading history and extremely high trading volume. In terms of asset custody, participating institutions must take measures to prevent operational and custody risks, with standards referenced from the regulatory announcement issued by FINMA on January 12, 2026, which requires that customer crypto assets are not included in bankruptcy assets in the event of the custodian's bankruptcy. Meanwhile, the sales process must comply with Fidleg's conduct rules to provide higher investor protection than direct purchases of cryptocurrencies, and the fund documents must clearly indicate the associated risks.While approving the ETF, FINMA emphasized that even investing in Bitcoin through an approved ETF carries high risks, with severe volatility potentially leading to significant depreciation of the principal invested, and required the issuer to provide clear warnings about volatility and loss risks. The United States has approved Bitcoin spot ETFs starting January 2024, with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust launching on January 11, 2024, currently managing approximately $65 billion. The Swiss Exchange has been able to trade Bitcoin products for years, but they have existed in the form of ETPs and do not have fund status; this approved ETF is the first to incorporate Bitcoin into the approved public fund framework.

Bitwise: Actively promoting over 20 wealth management platforms to approve cryptocurrency ETP

Bitwise analyst Ishmael Asad posted on the X platform that Bitwise is currently collaborating with over 20 wealth management platforms, with a total asset management scale of approximately $24 trillion. Bitwise is also promoting the approval of cryptocurrency exchange-traded products (ETPs) by relevant platforms so that their investment advisors can provide clients with channels for cryptocurrency allocation.Currently, among the institutions collaborating with Bitwise, 17 have approved cryptocurrency concept stock ETPs, 11 have approved Bitcoin ETPs, 6 have approved Ethereum ETPs, 6 have approved ETPs for the top ten cryptocurrency portfolios, and 2 have approved Solana ETPs, with 1 each approving Bitcoin and gold combination and XRP ETPs. Asad stated that since the first batch of spot cryptocurrency ETFs was launched in January 2024, the cumulative net inflow into cryptocurrency ETPs has been approximately $77 billion. Currently, there are over 50 spot cryptocurrency ETPs in the U.S. market, and the number is still increasing, covering BTC, ETH, SOL, AVAX, LINK, XRP, ZEC, HYPE, cryptocurrency portfolios, and more. In addition, the interest of wealth management institutions in cryptocurrency assets is also continuously growing, and the related demand is extending from ETPs to cryptocurrency trading and custody, payment, and tokenization fields.

first_img Bitwise CIO stated that Q3 data points to a crypto spring

Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan stated that the third quarter may be one of the best-performing quarters in cryptocurrency history, with a significant price rebound and continuous growth in the on-chain market, pointing to the beginning of a "crypto spring." The quarterly market review released by Bitwise shows that its large-cap crypto index rose 46.4% in Q3, while the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF recorded $6 billion in inflows during the same period, bringing the year-to-date net inflow back into positive territory.The growth is not limited to coin prices. The value of tokenized stocks increased by 65.5% to nearly $3.2 billion, and the open interest in decentralized perpetual contracts reached a new high of nearly $26 billion, with the proportion linked to stocks, commodities, foreign exchange, and pre-IPO shares continuously rising. Bitcoin rose 42.3% in Q3, while Ethereum and Solana increased by 69.1% and 59.2%, respectively. All ten constituent assets of the large-cap index recorded double-digit quarterly gains, with Chainlink leading at a 97.6% increase.The rebound did not cover all sectors of the industry. Bitcoin mining companies Riot Platforms and Hut 8 saw their stock prices drop by 26.4% and 25.4% in Q3, respectively, while Galaxy Digital fell by 16.8%; the number of publicly traded companies holding Bitcoin decreased by nearly 6% to 173, and the number of companies holding Ethereum dropped from 40 to 35.

Famous trader: Bitcoin needs to hold above $80,000 and form higher lows; otherwise, the pullback may deepen

Renowned trader Killa stated that if Bitcoin is to evolve according to the current trend structure, it needs to form a higher low above $75,500, ideally also holding the low around $80,000. This is similar to the trend in 2023: at that time, Bitcoin formed a higher high on the weekly level, then retraced and held the original range. This may explain why the recent low time frame market seems so prone to triggering stop losses, with aggressive movements and traces of algorithmic trading.Bitcoin once reclaimed its internal structure in the $82,000 range, then retraced, broke the structure again, and then reclaimed it once more. The entire market seems to be deliberately enticing traders to enter. It must be acknowledged that the initial drop to the $81,000 range was not ideal from a structural perspective. However, there were a large number of shorts concentrated at the lows, which may explain the subsequent price reaction.Another detail worth noting is that during the drop from $84,100 to $81,000, only about $300 million in long positions were liquidated; whereas previously, during the drop from $86,800 to $80,600, the scale of long liquidations exceeded $2 billion. The significant decrease in long liquidation scale indicates that the current market's reliance on long positions may be lower than before. The current market situation is quite delicate. Bitcoin needs to form a higher low at the current position to initiate a new round of upward movement; otherwise, this pullback may bring the price below $80,000. As of now, the so-called "crash protection team" has done well in maintaining the price, but it is also continuously disrupting the internal oscillation range in the low time frame.

first_img Bitwise CEO: The failure of the Dogecoin ETF highlights the differences between ETF buyers and cryptocurrency application users

Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley stated in an interview with The Block at the Digital Asset Summit 2026 Asia that the failure of the Bitwise spot Dogecoin ETF is "tragic," highlighting the "difference" between the users served by spot ETFs and those served by crypto brokerage applications. The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2025 and is set to close less than a year after its launch, with trading halting after October 14. According to SoSoValue data, as of October 7, the fund managed approximately $725,900 in assets, with a trading volume of $51,500 in September.Horsley expressed that he likes and holds Dogecoin, believing that it is historically a useless token but represents something and is a reasonable asset; however, it has shown no progress as an ETF. He thinks ETF users do not want to invest money in Dogecoin, but this may change over time; he denied that Bitwise targeted the wrong audience and described crypto ETFs as a channel. In contrast, he is more confident about the success of the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF (BSOL), stating that its pioneering staking feature contributed to its success, but the $1.3 billion in net assets ultimately reflects a bet on Solana.AI is currently one of Bitwise's focuses. Horsley stated that crypto and AI originate from the same source, with the former reconstructing financial services as software and the latter enabling machines to perform tasks previously done by humans;
