Anthropic researcher resigns, stating that AI may go out of control next year

Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon announced his resignation and is preparing to leave the AI industry. He has conducted pre-training research at OpenAI and Anthropic over the past three years. He pointed out that neither company has responsibly advanced AI and are competing to create superintelligence that can continue to enhance its own capabilities, "betting our lives on it."He switched from OpenAI to Anthropic this year because the latter places more emphasis on model safety. Coxon acknowledged that Anthropic's safety work is serious, but believes that as long as companies are racing to be the first to create AGI (artificial general intelligence that surpasses humans in a wide range of tasks), safety compromises are unavoidable, and self-discipline from a single company cannot solve the problem. His assessment of the two companies is: many people inside OpenAI still do not truly realize how great this risk is; Anthropic knows the risks but believes others are unreliable, so they must create it themselves first.Coxon stated that some AI practitioners are much more pessimistic privately than they express publicly, and are even worried that AI could destroy humanity before the end of this decade. He personally judges that in the most radical scenario, AI could go out of control by the end of next year, so such decisions should not be made solely by the engineers of a few companies.

Licheng, Jingyuan Electronics, and Silergy all reported year-on-year and month-on-month revenue growth in August, with Licheng and Silergy setting new historical highs for two consecutive months. Licheng's consolidated revenue in August was 8.558 billion New Taiwan Dollars, a month-on-month increase of 3.48% and a year-on-year increase of 24.46%. After breaking the 8 billion mark for the first time in July and setting a historical high, August saw another record. The cumulative revenue for the first eight months reached 61.258 billion New Taiwan Dollars, a year-on-year increase of 30.83%. Jingyuan Electronics reported revenue of 4.08 billion New Taiwan Dollars in August, a month-on-month increase of 2.23% and a year-on-year increase of 31.58%. The cumulative revenue for the first eight months was 29.404 billion New Taiwan Dollars, a year-on-year increase of 35.53%. Silergy's revenue in August was 2.07 billion New Taiwan Dollars, with a month-on-month increase of nearly 3% and a year-on-year increase of nearly 29%. The momentum for memory orders is expected to continue until the end of the year, with a positive market outlook at the beginning of next year. In addition to its core memory business, advanced packaging has become a key focus for the next phase of development. The panel-level packaging has already been adopted by American clients, and the production capacity of the P11 plant has been secured by clients, with plans to enter the mass production phase of integrated ASIC and HBM AI chips by mid-2027.Jingyuan Electronics has been actively expanding its high-end testing capacity in recent years, with AI-related products becoming an important driving force for its operations. The testing demand for AI GPUs, ASICs, and high-performance computing chips remains its main source of growth. Silergy pointed out that the demand for AI and high-speed interconnects is strong, including an increase in demand for high-performance computing chips such as CPUs, GPUs, ASICs, and AI accelerators. After completing the cleanroom construction at the newly acquired Hukou plant in February, Silergy began mass production in July, currently achieving 40% of the total capacity of the plant and gradually taking on new demand from overseas clients.

first_img OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, calling it the arrival of the AGI era

OpenAI officially released GPT-6 Astra on Thursday, with President Greg Brockman calling it a "generational leap in capability" during the press conference, and believing that the model has reached the standard of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), meaning that artificial intelligence can match or exceed human capabilities. Brockman stated, "Welcome to the era of AGI." If this judgment holds, it means AI entities will be closer to performing reasoning tasks in various complex tasks that humans can do, and even more.GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI's first model to cross the "critical" threshold under its internal danger capability scoring system, the Preparedness Framework, which means it can independently discover previously unknown software vulnerabilities (i.e., zero-day vulnerabilities) without gradual human supervision and chain them into attacks that can run in hardened systems. In testing, the model achieved a score of 100% on the ExploitBench benchmark; to rule out inflated scores due to memory answers, OpenAI conducted a second test using 20 recent vulnerabilities from the Google V8 JavaScript engine. Astra not only surpassed the previous generation GPT-5.6 Sol but also discovered and chained two previously unknown zero-day vulnerabilities, which are still being disclosed to the affected parties.Due to its high autonomy, the monitoring difficulty of Astra has also increased. OpenAI acknowledges that in tests assessing its ability to evade supervision, the model is more difficult to track than previous systems.
