Bernstein lowers Circle's target price to $140, determining that the threat from Open USD will weaken

According to The Block, Bernstein has lowered Circle's target price from $190 to $140 while maintaining an outperform rating. Analyst Gautam Chhugani stated that the threat posed to Circle by the Open USD Alliance, supported by over 140 institutions including Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe, is lower than market expectations. As of July 28, Circle's closing price was $64.32.The end-of-quarter supply of USDC for the second quarter was approximately $73 billion, down from $77 billion in the first quarter, with the average supply rising to about $76 billion. The average SOFR for the second quarter decreased to 3.62%, the reserve return rate fell to 3.46%, and reserve income rose to approximately $655 million. The USDC balance on Hyperliquid has increased from $5 billion in mid-May to over $6 billion, generating about $210 million in annualized gross reserve income, of which approximately $190 million is directed to the exchange according to the revenue-sharing agreement.Bernstein has reduced its forecast for USDC supply at the end of 2026 by 37% to $83 billion and lowered its 2028 forecast to $170 billion; the adjusted EBITDA forecast for 2026 has been cut by 12% to $602 million, and the earnings per share (EPS) forecast has been lowered from $1.98 to $0.92. However, the firm expects that by 2035, the total supply of stablecoins will reach $4 trillion, with Circle holding about a 30% share. Additionally, Circle received final approval from the OCC in July to establish Circle National Trust.

According to DefiLlama data, the Ethereum chain random NFT acquisition protocol Fake World Assets, developed by the two-person team Token Works, surpassed the daily revenue of Collector Crypt on Solana within four days of its relaunch on July 20.On July 25, the peak daily revenue reached $447,604, with total fees of $1.6 million, and approximately 90,000 transactions including about 35,000 draws, with a trading volume of around 2,000 ETH. After that, activity declined, with revenue in the past 24 hours dropping to $167,869, ranking second in daily revenue among Ethereum protocols, only behind Sky ($464,303), and ahead of Aave ($105,282) and Uniswap ($76,028).In this protocol, depositors list NFTs along with their pledged ETH collateral (similar to Uniswap V2 trading pairs), where the collateral determines the weight of each NFT and provides depositors with irrevocable continuous bids to reacquire the NFT. Anyone can pay the acquisition price generated by the liquidity pool to obtain a randomly selected NFT.The pool has accumulated over 1,500 NFTs including CryptoPunks, with randomness provided by Chainlink VRF. The token emission incentives expire 15 days after launch, and daily fees have decreased by about half from their peak. Collector Crypt on Solana remains the leader in this sector, with users spending over $209 million on its card packs in June alone.

Lido launches the largest upgrade, integrating over 8 million ETH staked, with the number of validators expected to decrease by one third

Ethereum's largest liquid staking protocol Lido announced the launch of the largest protocol upgrade since the V2 upgrade in 2023, which will integrate over 8 million staked ETH (approximately $16.5 billion) and migrate to the new validator architecture following the Ethereum Pectra upgrade. This migration is expected to reduce the number of Ethereum network validators by about one-third, lowering the load on the consensus layer.Lido stated that after the upgrade is completed, the number of attestation messages per epoch across the entire Ethereum network is expected to decrease by about 29%, thereby improving network operational efficiency. This upgrade will migrate professional node operators to the Curated Module v2 (CMv2) architecture. Unlike before, which mainly relied on operator reputation and historical performance, CMv2 requires Lido-selected node operators to lock ETH as collateral for the first time, providing economic guarantees for node operational performance.Lido indicated that all 34 selected node operators are expected to complete the migration, and no operators have exited due to the new collateral requirements. Lido's staking lead Isidoros Passadis stated that this upgrade will streamline the validator set supporting Lido's core staking business while enhancing security through capital constraints. Lido expects that this migration will result in a decrease of approximately 0.28% in annual staking yields for the protocol. Validators will continue to earn rewards before exiting the migration, with any yield loss likely occurring only during the brief period before balances are transferred to the new validators.
