first_img The U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires civil agencies to remove DeepSeek and prohibits new purchases

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) instructed U.S. civil agencies on Monday to remove products from the Chinese AI company DeepSeek from government IT systems, as well as any third-party services built on that model, and to prohibit new procurements. The notice stated that using DeepSeek could lead to the transfer of sensitive data to China and could generate intelligence targeting U.S. individuals and institutions. DHS indicated that these models constitute "multiple threat vectors."The ban targets not only DeepSeek's own applications but also covers third-party services based on its development. A DHS memorandum from July was made public on Monday, which had previously requested agencies to monitor the risks related to DeepSeek in the traffic in and out of government websites. The U.S. Department of Commerce, the Navy, and the states of New York, Tennessee, and Virginia had previously restricted DeepSeek. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will vote on October 29 to decide whether to ban all Chinese laboratories from testing electronic products used in the U.S.DeepSeek is a startup based in Hangzhou, and its open-source model attracted widespread attention on January 27, 2025, with development costs of less than $5 million, leading to a 16% drop in Nvidia's stock price that day, evaporating about $600 billion in market value. In April 2025, the U.S. House of Representatives' Special Committee on China Issues stated that DeepSeek might secretly send U.S. user data to the Chinese government and may have used about 60,000 Nvidia chips, of which 20,000 were subject to U.S. export controls. The V4-Pro model preview released by DeepSeek in April this year was priced about 98% lower than OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Pro and was made available for free download and modification under the MIT license; this week it also released an updated version of the V4.1-Flash model focused on efficiency optimization.

first_img U.S. Congressman Warren Davidson: The future of currency will determine the direction of Western civilization

According to Bitcoin Magazine, U.S. Congressman Warren Davidson stated in an interview video published by Bitcoin Magazine that the future of currency is closely linked to the future of Western civilization. He pointed out that the U.S. is burdened with about $40 trillion in debt, and since 2020, the dollar has lost about 30% of its purchasing power. The rising risk of default and inflation are driving up interest rates, and those without physical assets will lose purchasing power. Davidson is the founder of the Sound Money Caucus. In the interview, Davidson also discussed the end of the debate vote on the Clarity Act and its Section 305's threat to self-custody, as well as whether the bill will be reintroduced after the midterm elections, and topics such as open-source developer protection and the Trump family ethics clause. He also mentioned the American Reserve Modernization Act and the issue of the U.S. government holding Bitcoin, and responded to whether Bitcoin has become a partisan issue.Additionally, Davidson expressed his views on central bank digital currencies, financial surveillance, and reforms to the Bank Secrecy Act, referring to stablecoins as "Hydra-like" central bank digital currencies, and discussed the GENIUS Act. He urged Bitcoin supporters to defend freedom in the midterm elections and warned that the direction of the monetary system's development will determine the trajectory of Western civilization.

Ray Dalio: The United States is on the brink of the fifth stage of the "big cycle," facing the risks of civil war and order collapse

Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, published a lengthy analysis on social media, warning that the United States is in the fifth stage of his "Big Cycle" theory (the eve of order collapse), with multiple indicators suggesting that society may slide into the sixth stage (civil war and order collapse). His core judgments are based on:Deteriorating finances and conflicts: High government deficits and rising debt, along with historical highs in wealth and value gaps, constitute a "classic deadly combination."Populism and extremism: Increased political polarization, the silencing of moderates, media becoming a tool for partisan struggle, and the "loss of truth" in the public sphere.Escalation of violent incidents: Recent deaths of protesters in Minneapolis and conflicts between federal and state governments are typical signs of transitioning to the sixth stage.Systemic dysfunction: Legal and political systems are increasingly used as weapons in struggles, with rules giving way to the logic of "winning at all costs."Ray Dalio stated that the current situation is highly similar to the early period of order reorganization from 1930 to 1945. If consensus cannot be built through leadership and painful but necessary reforms are not implemented, society may repeat the mistakes of civil war/revolution. Investors and policymakers should recognize the forces of the cycle, promote productivity-oriented reforms (education, infrastructure, research), and replace "zero-sum struggle" with "win-win cooperation" to avoid an irreversible collapse of the system. Although the trajectory is difficult to change, it is still possible and necessary to mitigate conflicts and reshape broad prosperity through wise choices before sliding into the sixth stage.
