XRP Ledger developers test a zero-balance account creation plan, which is proposed to be funded by the sponsor to cover the 1 XRP reserve requirement

According to CoinDesk, XRP Ledger developers are testing a new feature that aims to allow the creation of blockchain accounts with an initial balance of zero, with existing accounts bearing the reserve required for new accounts, thereby lowering the financial threshold for payment applications and automated software to create wallets on a large scale. This proposal was submitted on October 15 in the form of a SponsoredAccountCreate transaction proposal.According to current XRP Ledger rules, each account must reserve at least 1 XRP as a reserve, meaning that creating 100,000 independent accounts would require locking up 100,000 XRP. The new proposal intends for sponsored accounts to bear this reserve requirement, and a broader fee sponsorship mechanism in the future could also allow applications to pay transaction fees on behalf of users, but the overall reserve requirement for the network will not be eliminated. This feature is expected to lower the usage threshold for scenarios such as embedded wallets, RLUSD stablecoin payments, and AI agent automated payments. However, the related code is still under review, and the sponsorship mechanism it relies on has not yet gone live on the mainnet. As of October 19, the mechanism has only received 11 votes out of the 35 required validator votes, still falling short of the 29 votes needed for approval.

first_img The developer who replicated Photoshop is taking action again, releasing an open-source clone of the Microsoft Office suite

Brandon Thomas, the developer who previously used AI to reconstruct Adobe Creative Cloud for free, has now turned his attention to Microsoft Office. He has released open-source clone applications WordCraft, GridCraft, and DeckCraft on GitHub, corresponding to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, respectively. The three applications are written in Rust, with a single codebase that can run natively on Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD, and can also run in a browser. Thomas refers to this as a clean room reconstruction, meaning it is based on publicly available file format specifications and observations of the original software's behavior, without ever copying Microsoft's code, similar to the legal path taken by Compaq in the 1980s to clone the IBM PC BIOS.WordCraft can read and write .docx format, covering 88% of the features in the Word ribbon. It currently supports revision tracking, footnotes, citations, and mail merge; however, taking into account document fidelity and stability, the team estimates its completeness as a Word alternative for actual work is only about 60%, and it is still labeled as an alpha early testing version. GridCraft has supported 513 out of 523 Excel worksheet functions and 89% of ribbon commands, with the developer self-assessing about 50% as usable for actual work. The next step is to improve compatibility with real .xlsx files.

first_img Zcash developer program supports quantum-resistant signatures in January, initial protection for transparent transactions

The Zcash development team plans to add post-quantum signature support to the network in January. Zakura engineer Roman Akhtariev stated in an engineering blog that the team plans to implement post-quantum signature opcodes in Zcash in January. These opcodes will enable Zcash to verify hash-based signatures, thereby resisting quantum computing attacks. The team has not yet confirmed a specific network activation date. This upgrade aims to prevent attackers from using current public keys to reverse-engineer and forge payment authorizations from wallet owners. The initial phase of this upgrade will protect transparent transactions. Zcash has two payment methods: shielded payments hide the sender, receiver, and amount; transparent payments are similar to Bitcoin, where addresses and amounts are visible on the chain. According to CoinDesk, based on ZecStats data, approximately 11.96 million of the 16.98 million issued ZEC are stored in the transparent pool, accounting for about 70%. The January plan primarily targets this public portion. Additionally, Zakura has developed a private query tool that allows wallets to check balances without exposing associated addresses to the server; the experimental version is available in the "Private queries" settings of the Zcash wallet Vizor. Before the release of Zakura's engineering article, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake warned holders on Thursday to prepare for what he called "bunker mode," stating that in the worst-case scenario, AI could find shortcuts to break the mathematical protections of Bitcoin and Ethereum wallets in "months rather than years."

first_img Google released the Nano Banana 2.1 image model, with the developer call price being about half of the previous generation

Google released its latest image generation and editing model, Nano Banana 2.1, on October 6, and it has been launched in the Gemini app, AI mode of Google Search, Google Ads, as well as developer tools like Google AI Studio, Flow, and Stitch. This model can generate images from text descriptions and edit existing photos.Google stated that this upgrade focuses on three aspects: visual design, mask-based editing (where only the marked area changes), and subject consistency, meaning that characters or objects retain their original features after multiple edits. In the overall preference test for text-to-image generation, Nano Banana 2.1 scored 1050 ELO points, higher than Nano Banana 2's 990 points and Nano Banana Pro's 935 points. The model can handle up to 14 reference images simultaneously, track 4 characters and 10 objects, and output up to 4K resolution with an aspect ratio of up to 8:1. Developers can also set the thinking time before generation and enable fact-checking based on Google Search and Google Image Search. When called through the Google Developer API, the standard 1K image is priced at $0.0336, about half of Nano Banana 2's $0.067; the 4K image is $0.0756, while the previous generation was $0.151, and bulk tasks can enjoy a 50% discount. The above performance data comes from Google's own testing.

first_img Energy developer FSE signed a memorandum with Loaf to plan a blockchain project for over 500 million dollars in photovoltaic energy

Energy developer Fusion Source Energy (FSE) and its partners have signed a memorandum of understanding with the on-chain physical asset platform Loaf to promote the issuance of over $500 million in Australian photovoltaic and battery projects on-chain, covering more than 1,000 hectares, led by the over 200 megawatt Project Amber. According to the memorandum, the funds raised are expected to accelerate project development and expand Amber's battery capacity.Amber is a utility-scale photovoltaic park that will deploy over 200 megawatts of photovoltaic and multi-hour battery storage on-site, with an expected annual power generation sufficient to meet the electricity needs of over 70,000 households, or equivalent to the electricity demand of a 50 megawatt data center. The project pipeline also includes battery storage assets below 5 megawatts and distributed energy resources, which are modular assets closer to the electricity end, capable of forming diversified energy revenue across multiple sites in Australia.FSE CEO Weiwei Shi stated that Amber is one of the largest hybrid on-site projects in the Southern Hemisphere, which have traditionally only been open to a few institutional investors. Loaf can expand the investor base without adding extra friction and provide continuous, transparent pricing for the assets.Loaf stated that Project Amber will become a key asset in its ecosystem. As the project matures and begins trading, users will be able to go long or short and use these assets within the on-chain financial ecosystem. Loaf will participate in the on-chain trading and issuance of physical assets, allowing users to access the economic upside and returns of related infrastructure assets.

first_img Ripple's new developer toolkit supports the AI payment standards of Stripe and Tempo

Ripple announced the expansion of its XRP Ledger developer suite to support the Machine Payment Protocol (MPP) co-developed by Stripe and Tempo, as well as the open wallet standard. The XRPL AI Starter Kit version 1.1 adds this support, enabling AI agents to use tokens like XRP and RLUSD to pay for online services such as data and computing power. Jazzi Cooper, head of RippleX products, stated that Ripple's goal is for XRP and RLUSD to become the preferred payment options for developers when building applications.MPP allows AI agents to pay on demand: the service provider quotes a price for the request, and after the agent authorizes the payment, the service provider delivers the resources. This standard was co-authored by payment company Stripe and payment chain Tempo. Ripple has supported another network payment standard, x402, since June, and now supports both standards simultaneously. The open wallet standard allows agents to initiate transactions without accessing private keys and includes security mechanisms such as spending limits and whitelisted destinations.XRP payment channels are suitable for small, high-frequency payment scenarios, allowing agents to deposit XRP once, run hundreds of payment queries, and authorize small expenditures sequentially, enabling the service provider to collect cumulative payments without having to put each query on-chain. Currently, single payments support tokens like RLUSD, but continuous payment sessions are limited to XRP, and incorporating stablecoins into the channel depends on the proposed ledger upgrade. This payment software is still in the testing phase.
