Goldman Sachs: Semiconductor exposure explains about 54% of the earnings difference, while oil prices account for only 2%

Goldman Sachs' latest research shows that over the past three weeks, semiconductor stock exposure has been able to explain about 54% of the return performance differences between different asset classes, while oil price exposure accounts for only 2%. As the influence of AI trading continues to expand, technology stocks are becoming an important factor driving global market risk appetite and asset performance differentiation.Goldman Sachs pointed out that recent investor risk appetite has been highly synchronized with the relative performance of large technology stocks. Last week, concerns about AI investment returns, financing costs, and capital expenditures intensified, leading to a sell-off in technology stocks and corporate bonds, with Goldman Sachs' risk appetite indicator falling to its lowest level since April 2025. The South Korean stock market has become a typical case of this impact, with the KOSPI rising 3.1% on Tuesday, and SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics increasing by 5.2% and 4.2%, respectively.Due to the high weight of semiconductor stocks in the Korea Composite Stock Price Index, changes in global AI investment expectations directly affect local market performance. Goldman Sachs emphasized that the 54% and 2% figures reflect a statistical relationship within a specific time window and do not imply that AI factors long-term determine global market fluctuations; the impact of high oil prices on inflation, monetary policy, and asset pricing cannot be ignored. Major technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon are about to announce their earnings reports, and the market will focus on whether AI demand can continue to grow and whether massive capital expenditures can be converted into actual profits.

first_img Yushu Technology reminds of unusual stock price fluctuations, with a rolling price-to-earnings ratio of 465.22 times

The humanoid robot company Yushu Technology (688836.SH) announced that the cumulative price deviation of the company's stock closing price has exceeded 30% over three consecutive trading days, which falls under the category of abnormal stock trading fluctuations. As of October 26, 2026, the company's rolling price-to-earnings ratio is 465.22 times, significantly higher than the average rolling price-to-earnings ratio of 38.54 times in the general equipment manufacturing industry. The announcement pointed out that the humanoid robot industry is still in the early stages of commercialization, with uncertainties in technology maturity, cultivation of downstream market demand, and supporting capabilities in the industrial chain. The transition of physical AI technology from laboratory demonstrations to large-scale implementation in real-world scenarios still faces challenges such as perception accuracy, motion control stability, data accumulation, and hardware-software collaboration. The maturity of the technological path and business model still requires time for validation. If the industry's large-scale commercialization progress does not meet expectations, the company's future revenue expansion and performance release may be adversely affected, posing investment risks of valuation regression.

first_img SK Hynix plans to distribute a special dividend of approximately 16 trillion Korean Won from Kioxia's earnings

According to an exclusive report by the East Asia Daily on October 26, the memory chip company SK Hynix plans to return 80% of the proceeds from the sale of its stake in the Japanese NAND manufacturer Kioxia to shareholders as a special dividend. The report cites investment banks and financial industry sources estimating the related proceeds to be around 20 trillion Korean won, with the special dividend expected to be about 16 trillion Korean won. The company intends to announce this plan during the third-quarter earnings release on October 28. Currently, this is an industry expectation and not an officially confirmed announcement by the company.Based on the current number of shares issued, the special dividend amounts to approximately 23,000 Korean won per share, which is 15 times the annual fixed dividend of 1,500 Korean won per share and 61 times the quarterly dividend of 375 Korean won. Whether the payment will be made in installments is still under consideration. Last year's total dividend was 2.1 trillion Korean won. The company stated during the second-quarter earnings call that it is exploring various additional ways to return value to shareholders and will share the details once determined within the year.In 2018, SK Hynix participated in a consortium led by Bain Capital to acquire the NAND business spun off from Toshiba, which was renamed Kioxia in 2019. The total investment by the company was approximately 395 billion Japanese yen, of which the fund's contribution has been sold in phases by Bain and fully recovered. In the first quarter of this year, part of the disposal recovered 4.1178 trillion Korean won, and after further disposal in the second quarter, the estimated proceeds, excluding the principal, are around 20 trillion Korean won. Kioxia's stock price rose from about 10,000 Japanese yen at the end of last year to a historical high of 112,700 Japanese yen on June 22 this year.

Bloomberg: South Korea's stock market becomes the first trillion-dollar market to fall below a price-to-earnings ratio of 5

According to Bloomberg data, the expected price-to-earnings ratio of South Korea's KOSPI index for the next 12 months has fallen to 4.2 times, becoming the first trillion-dollar market on record to drop below the 5 times threshold. Among the 18 markets with a market capitalization exceeding 1 trillion dollars at the beginning of this year, this situation has never occurred with a benchmark index before. The cooling of the AI boom has triggered a sell-off in technology stocks, putting pressure on the South Korean stock market. Although South Korea's exports are approaching 1 trillion dollars, the demand for chips from SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics remains strong, but investors are still unwilling to pay higher valuations for the earnings of related companies. The valuation of the South Korean stock market is now close to that of the Indonesian market, which is facing the risk of an MSCI downgrade, with the discount level further widening. Bloomberg comments that extremely low valuations may create space for future valuation recovery. If sentiment turns, South Korean stocks are expected to outperform other markets in the short term, but it is uncertain when the recovery will start and whether there will be further declines; a low price-to-earnings ratio itself does not mean that it has already hit bottom.

This week's macro outlook: Jensen Huang appears at NVIDIA GTC, the Federal Reserve enters a quiet period, and Meta and Tesla's earnings reports become the market focus

Last week, U.S. tech stocks experienced a significant pullback, with the Nasdaq dropping over 4% for the week. The market is digesting stronger-than-expected inflation data while reassessing the narrative that "the economy cannot be crushed." The Federal Reserve has entered its quiet period ahead of the FOMC meeting on October 28, with officials absent from public statements. This week, more attention will be on the earnings reports of tech giants and economic data, with Meta and Tesla set to announce their results, and the semiconductor and storage sectors also entering their earnings disclosure window. On the geopolitical front, Trump has suspended the full sanctions and tariff enforcement against Russia and set a roughly 60-day assessment window. Disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and escalating risks in the Middle East continue to support oil price premiums. On the agenda, the Nvidia GTC Berlin conference opens on Tuesday and runs until the 22nd; on Wednesday, the U.S. will release API and EIA crude oil inventory data for the week ending October 16. In the evening, Beijing time, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will deliver a keynote speech, followed by earnings reports from Meta, Tesla, IBM, and Lam Research after the market closes. On Thursday, the U.S. will announce initial jobless claims for the week ending October 17. Before the market opens, Nokia will release its earnings report, and after the market closes, Western Digital and MaxLinear will announce their earnings. On Friday, the U.S. will release the preliminary values for the October S&P Global Manufacturing and Services PMIs, as well as the final value of the University of Michigan Consumer Confidence Index and the final value of one-year inflation expectations. On the same day, Japan will also release its September CPI and preliminary values for the October composite, manufacturing, and services PMIs, allowing the market to observe the price situation ahead of the Bank of Japan's decision on October 30.

CITIC Securities: The high growth of earnings in the U.S. stock market may no longer be concentrated solely among leading technology companies

CITIC Securities released a research report indicating that as the performance of U.S. stocks during the domestic long holiday becomes desensitized to interest rates, investors' focus will shift to the upcoming third-quarter earnings reports of U.S. stocks starting next week.LSEG's consensus expectations show that the S&P 500's revenue and earnings growth rates for Q3 2026 are expected to reach 1.2% and 45.0% year-on-year, respectively, with a slight decline quarter-on-quarter. At the industry level, the year-on-year earnings growth rates for energy, information technology, materials, and healthcare all exceed 50%. The high growth in U.S. stock earnings may no longer be concentrated solely in leading technology companies, as the earnings contribution from non-tech sectors is significantly increasing. For Hong Kong stocks, although the overseas interest rate hike cycle combined with the restart of AI momentum trading continues to pressure liquidity, the fundamental expectations have bottomed out, and the earnings growth expectations for major broad-based indices have begun to be revised upward. The adjustment of industry earnings expectations is significantly differentiated, with some sub-sectors seeing upward revisions, while the earnings expectations for domestic demand-related industries still face downward pressure. The upcoming third-quarter performance will be an important basis for assessing the progress of recovery. We advise investors to remain patient with Hong Kong stocks, as short-term dividend strategies are expected to continue to outperform.
