Vy Capital disclosed that it holds $40 billion in SpaceX shares, becoming the fifth largest shareholder

According to the Financial Times, the low-profile venture capital firm Vy Capital currently holds approximately $40 billion worth of SpaceX shares, with a stake of about 3.4%. According to Bloomberg data, the firm has become the fifth-largest shareholder of SpaceX, disclosing a holding size larger than that of Silicon Valley venture capital firms such as Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz. Vy Capital first invested in SpaceX in 2016 when the company's valuation was around $15 billion; after SpaceX went public this year with a valuation of about $1.75 trillion, the value of its holdings has significantly increased.Vy Capital is also the largest external investor in Elon Musk's tunnel company The Boring Company and brain-computer interface company Neuralink, and had committed $700 million for Musk's acquisition of Twitter in 2022. The firm's head, John Hering, has a close relationship with Musk, having invested over $100 million in SpaceX shortly after the Falcon 9 rocket launch failure in 2016; since 2019, he has also been involved in the early business development of Starlink, including hiring personnel and building financial models, and has held a SpaceX employee badge. Currently, Hering serves as a director of The Boring Company, and Vy Capital also participated in the company's recent $3 billion financing round.Vy Capital's assets under management have increased from $27 billion at the end of last year to $50 billion in June of this year. In a letter to investors, the firm stated that since its establishment in 2014, it has achieved a total internal rate of return of 41% and has distributed $4.6 billion to investors. Vy Capital expects that if investment judgments materialize, SpaceX's valuation will exceed $10 trillion in the next 5 to 7 years. The firm currently has only a few dozen employees, with a core investment team of four, and has stopped accepting external investors since last year.

first_img After the release of GPT-6 Astra, users complained that it became less intelligent, and OpenAI has not yet responded

According to a report by Decrypt, OpenAI's latest flagship model GPT-6 Astra has seen a surge of user complaints on the X platform about its performance "getting dumber" just a week after its release. An anonymous developer, synthwavedd, posted that "Astra feels noticeably dumber today," joking that it was a "post-release lobotomy." Previously praising the model, developer Pranjal Paliwal stated after reviewing the code Astra wrote for him: "We don't have AGI; what we're encountering is a performance regression."Developer Pankaj Kumar listed the symptoms: faster responses with poorer quality, and he suspects OpenAI has lowered the "juice value" (the computational power invested by the model before answering). Salio and researcher Md Ismail Sojal compared Astra on the release day with the current version using the same prompts, both yielding worse results. T3Chat founder Theo believes Astra is simply less stable than Claude Fable, with users beginning to showcase poor results after the honeymoon period ended. There are also opinions pointing out that OpenAI's previous flagship GPT-5.6 Sol experienced a similar cycle in July, when OpenAI executive Tibo Sottiaux denied intentionally weakening the model but admitted the company had been experimenting with "reasoning effort" settings.OpenAI has not released a statement regarding Astra similar to that of Sol.

The U.S. CFTC has added 3 new insider trading investigations into Polymarket: involving Biden's pardons, the Iran war, and Google

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has previously secretly approved at least three insider trading investigations related to Polymarket trading, involving contracts related to Biden's pardons, the Iran war, and Google-related events. The relevant investigation documents were obtained by WIRED through the Freedom of Information Act.Among them, CFTC Chairman Michael Selig approved an investigation into contracts related to Biden's pardons in May, after a trader had profited over $300,000 in the relevant market; in the same month, the CFTC also approved an investigation into Iran war contracts, after a group of suspicious accounts was reported to have profited $2.4 million with a win rate of about 98%. In July, the CFTC further initiated an investigation into Google-related Polymarket contracts, focusing on individuals who may have traded using non-public information regarding Google's 2025 search rankings. The Southern District Attorney's Office in New York is also conducting a parallel investigation. It is currently unclear whether the aforementioned accounts are connected to previously investigated individuals. Polymarket stated that the company would refer the relevant matters to law enforcement and cooperate with the investigation. As the prediction market rapidly expands, U.S. regulators are clearly intensifying their scrutiny of insider trading and market manipulation.
