Bithumb administrative lawsuit held for the first time: claims that transfers of less than 1 million Korean won have regulatory gaps

According to South Korean media Digital Asset, the Second Division of the Seoul Administrative Court held its first hearing on October 22 regarding the administrative lawsuit between Bithumb and the Financial Intelligence Unit of Korea (FIU). The FIU determined that between August 28, 2022, and April 3, 2025, Bithumb conducted 45,772 transactions with 18 unreported cryptocurrency operators, and based on this, imposed sanctions, including a partial suspension that restricts new customers from transferring cryptocurrency assets externally for six months.Bithumb stated in court that transactions of 1 million won or more are subject to the "travel rule," and unreported operators have been excluded from the list of optional exchanges, thus the number of violations for this amount range is zero. Transactions below 1 million won were not subject to the travel rule at that time, and the platform had no legal basis to require customers to provide information about the receiving exchange, nor did the regulatory authorities specify a blocking method. Bithumb also mentioned that after integrating the Chainalysis API, only about 2% of the addresses that could not be confirmed were later identified as unreported operators designated by the FIU. If all were blocked, the remaining 98% of normal transactions would be affected, and the platform could also face user claims.Bithumb also believes that the six-month sanction is excessive, effectively equivalent to prohibiting the platform from acquiring new customers. The company also questioned the FIU's criteria for identifying overseas operators and the reasonableness of the basis for the sanctions.

Sun Yuchen responds to the lawsuit against WLFI: Business is business, and it does not affect the positive outlook on U.S. technology and cryptocurrency policies

Recently, Sun Yuchen discussed his lawsuit against the Trump family's cryptocurrency project WLFI in a conversation with Jin Ming. He clearly stated that he remains firmly supportive of President Trump's cryptocurrency policy and AI strategy, believing it to be very successful. The reason for suing World Liberty Financial is entirely a normal action for commercial investors to protect their rights. The cause stems from the project's lack of investment transparency and insufficient information disclosure, even involving allegations of fraud. The case has been formally submitted to the federal court in California and is to be decided by a federal judge, which fully complies with the operation of the rule of law in the United States.Sun Yuchen further clarified that this lawsuit will not affect his judgment of the macro trends in the United States. He continues to hold a significant position in U.S. technology stocks and is optimistic about TRX being approved for a spot ETF in the U.S., the on-chain business of U.S. stocks, as well as expectations for a stronger dollar and the continued strength of the AI industry.Sun Yuchen believes that public opinion has exaggerated and complicated this lawsuit; in fact, it is simply a "business-to-business" lawsuit. Even if the agreement's subject matter involves 400 to 500 million dollars, it does not significantly impact his overall asset portfolio.Sun Yuchen also stated that he invests with the patience of an old hunter. Once he is thoroughly optimistic and makes a significant decision, he will invest at least 4 to 5 billion dollars or more in a single transaction.

The CFTC of the United States rebuts the lawsuit qualification of CME: stating that it has not reasonably explained how the perpetual contract policy caused financial harm

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) stated in its latest court filing that CME only claims increased competition without reasonably explaining the existence of imminent financial harm, which is insufficient to qualify for a lawsuit challenging its perpetual contract policy. The CFTC pointed out that after the policy adjustment, CME's cryptocurrency futures trading volume has actually increased. In May of this year, the CFTC approved Kalshi's first Bitcoin perpetual contract and stated that it would regulate such products on a case-by-case basis under futures regulations. CME, on the other hand, believes that perpetual contracts do not have an expiration date and should be classified as swaps rather than futures, subject to a different regulatory framework. Last month, the CFTC requested a federal judge to dismiss the case, and this filing further elaborated on its rebuttal to CME's standing in the lawsuit. The CFTC also noted that CME had previously informed investors that it had not heard customer demand for perpetual contracts, and that such products could not replace its existing futures, and that it should not take different positions in court and during earnings calls. TD Cowen policy analyst Jaret Seiberg believes that CME may still have the upper hand regarding its standing in the lawsuit and the argument that the products should be classified as swaps. However, he is concerned that if the perpetual contract market continues to grow during the litigation, it may become more complicated to dismantle this market if CME wins.

first_img World launched the banking version of World ID suite, and Zoom's deepfake detection officially went live

The identity project World, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, announced the launch of a World ID verification product suite aimed at banks and financial institutions, marking the first industry-specific version of the identity protocol. World co-founder Alex Blania unveiled the product at the Money20/20 conference. The suite integrates three existing products, and World claims it can help institutions guard against deepfake fraud and AI-driven identity theft, covering scenarios such as customer accounts, employee workflows, and AI agents.Specifically, the World ID app is an identity wallet used to store and present what World refers to as user Proofs. World ID for Zoom allows call participants to confirm that the other party is a real person and not a deepfake; this feature has officially launched after a limited testing phase that began in April. World’s main developer, Tools for Humanity, has also joined Zoom's Independent Software Vendor Exchange Program. World ID for Agents, also known as AgentKit, allows users to delegate Proofs to AI agents, which present them to third-party platforms.World stated that it is collaborating with OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds, and Outtake as design partners to explore how its technology can support banks and financial services, but did not disclose specific bank names or pricing for the product. A press release cited a Deloitte forecast predicting that by 2027, AI-related fraud losses in the U.S. could reach $40 billion, up from approximately $12.3 billion in 2023. World claims that over 18 million people currently hold Proof of Human. Last month, World also launched the World Money self-custody app, supporting stablecoin payments in over 150 countries; in July, World Foundation raised $52.5 million through a WLD token sale, with a lock-up period of one year.

Crypto.com and Novig are suing Missouri, four companies have not yet followed up

According to The Block, the prediction market exchange under Crypto.com filed a lawsuit against Missouri officials in federal court on October 16, along with Novig, seeking to prohibit the state from enforcing sports betting laws on its sports event contracts. Previously, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway issued cease-and-desist orders to six companies from September 16 to 17, requiring them to stop offering sports event contracts to local users within 30 days or obtain a license from the Missouri Gaming Commission and pay a 10% betting tax.The exchange of Crypto.com, North American Derivatives Exchange, sued in the Western District Federal Court of Missouri, claiming that the Commodity Exchange Act grants the CFTC exclusive jurisdiction and takes precedence over state gambling laws. The lawsuit also stated that the Attorney General's letter was mistakenly sent to Foris DAX, Inc., and that the state constitution only allows for the issuance of two mobile sports betting licenses, with no licenses currently available.Novig, through its exchange operator Ludlow Exchange LLC, filed a lawsuit in the Eastern District Court, requesting a preliminary and permanent injunction to maintain the status quo while the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals hears the related case in Iowa regarding Kalshi. Among the six companies that received cease-and-desist orders, four, including Kalshi and Polymarket, have not yet followed up with lawsuits.

first_img Mysten Labs appointed Kevin Boon as CEO, and Evan Cheng remains as CTO and leads the AI department

Kevin Boon, President of Mysten Labs, has succeeded Evan Cheng as the CEO of this Sui Layer 1 blockchain developer. Cheng will continue to serve as Chief Technology Officer and personally lead the newly established internal AI business unit. In an open letter released on October 16, Cheng stated that Boon has accepted the position and announced the news simultaneously on X. Boon previously served as Chief Legal Officer at Mysten Labs before being promoted to President. Cheng mentioned, "I planned for this day when I appointed him as President."The new AI department will have independent functions such as engineering and product development to reduce external dependencies, and will focus on trust proxy products and AI-native infrastructure, referencing the model of the on-chain financial business unit established by Mysten this summer. Cheng stated that this transition is intended to free up more time for him to focus on technical leadership while continuing to support the Sui and Walrus ecosystems, "This makes my scope of responsibilities more manageable."The goal of the AI business is to allow proxies to autonomously execute tasks within user-defined limits, with related products and services anchored to Sui and Walrus. Walrus is Mysten's decentralized storage protocol, which is set to launch its mainnet in March 2025. Cheng specifically mentioned the Verifiable Agent Arbiter developed in collaboration with Google Cloud, which was announced on October 6, aimed at allowing enterprises to prove that their AI agents operate within authorized boundaries. As designed, detailed proxy records are stored in the customer-controlled Google Cloud Storage, with cryptographic proofs stored on Walrus and coordinated on Sui, with initial enterprise deployment plans set to launch ahead of broader availability.

first_img The developer who replicated Photoshop is taking action again, releasing an open-source clone of the Microsoft Office suite

Brandon Thomas, the developer who previously used AI to reconstruct Adobe Creative Cloud for free, has now turned his attention to Microsoft Office. He has released open-source clone applications WordCraft, GridCraft, and DeckCraft on GitHub, corresponding to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, respectively. The three applications are written in Rust, with a single codebase that can run natively on Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD, and can also run in a browser. Thomas refers to this as a clean room reconstruction, meaning it is based on publicly available file format specifications and observations of the original software's behavior, without ever copying Microsoft's code, similar to the legal path taken by Compaq in the 1980s to clone the IBM PC BIOS.WordCraft can read and write .docx format, covering 88% of the features in the Word ribbon. It currently supports revision tracking, footnotes, citations, and mail merge; however, taking into account document fidelity and stability, the team estimates its completeness as a Word alternative for actual work is only about 60%, and it is still labeled as an alpha early testing version. GridCraft has supported 513 out of 523 Excel worksheet functions and 89% of ribbon commands, with the developer self-assessing about 50% as usable for actual work. The next step is to improve compatibility with real .xlsx files.

first_img Mysten reported the first native quantum-resistant Devnet transaction of Sui, with the mainnet target set for the first quarter of 2027

Mysten Labs reports that the Sui network has completed its first native post-quantum Devnet transaction. This Devnet implementation introduces the ML-DSA-65 account signature, allowing accounts to authorize transactions directly using this post-quantum signature scheme. ML-DSA-65 belongs to the ML-DSA series defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) FIPS 204 standard, and Sui uses it as the native protocol signature scheme for everyday accounts.Sui is also planning to introduce a hash-based SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s (FIPS 205) for high-value vaults in Move smart contracts. The two schemes are based on lattice-based and hash-based mathematical problems, respectively, so a weakness in one scheme will not affect the other. Since Sui keys are deterministically derived from seeds, users can migrate to post-quantum keys using existing mnemonic phrases; the already launched address aliases allow accounts to update authorization keys without transferring assets.Post-quantum accounts are being rolled out in an optional, incremental manner, following the online path of zkLogin and passkey. Sui states that the goal for the post-quantum vault is to go live on the mainnet within this year, with the native ML-DSA-65 accounts aiming to enter the testnet by the end of the year, and the mainnet native account authentication goal set for the first quarter of 2027, with the final timeline depending on independent audits and testnet feedback.

first_img Intel and Qualcomm have raised processor prices, and AMD is rumored to follow suit

According to the Business Times citing supply chain sources, Intel has raised the prices of multi-generational PC processors since September, with the high-end Panther Lake seeing an increase of 15% to 20%. Qualcomm raised the prices of multi-chip platforms by about 10% on October 1, and AMD is reported to follow suit, with the increase, scope, and effective date still to be confirmed. The report states that Intel has raised prices three times since the end of last year. Starting from September 1, prices were adjusted differentially by product line, with the highest increase for high-end Panther Lake products, focusing on those equipped with high-end GPU tiles, rather than a simultaneous increase across the entire series; Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake saw increases of about 5% to 10%. Panther Lake adopts heterogeneous integration, with the CPU Compute tile produced by Intel 18A, and the high-end GPU tile outsourced to TSMC N3E. The largest increase this time is for high-end GPUs using TSMC's advanced process. The supply chain indicates that Qualcomm's Snapdragon X and X2 Elite platforms will increase by about 10% starting in October. AMD's Ryzen and EPYC heavily rely on TSMC's advanced processes, with the next generation of EPYC pushing towards 2 nanometers. Industry insiders say that process upgrades, product high-endization, and AI computing power demands are simultaneously driving up CPU prices, with AI, mobile, and high-end computing competing for TSMC's 3-nanometer capacity, while 2-nanometer is entering the ramp-up phase for mass production.
