first_img TSMC accelerates its layout in CPO, and the industry is optimistic about forming a new Moore's Law

According to Taiwan's "Commercial Times" report on September 14, as the computing power of GPUs and ASICs continues to rise, traditional copper interconnects are gradually approaching the limits of power consumption and signal transmission. TSMC is accelerating its layout for co-packaged optics (CPO). The industry is optimistic that if CPO bandwidth continues to double every two years, it may form the "CPO Moore's Law" of the AI era. Industry analysis indicates that the upgrade of CPO bandwidth mainly has three paths: including increasing single-channel speed from 200G to over 400G, expanding the number of optical channels from 16 to 32, 64 or more, and introducing wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). By 2040, the theoretical value could reach about 128 times the current level, with long-term potential for development towards hundreds of T based on the current level of about 3.2T.TSMC's role in optical interconnects has extended from wafer foundry to system integration, gradually integrating computing, HBM memory, and high-speed I/O from 3DFabric, CoWoS, SoIC to silicon photonics and CPO. When high-speed electrical signals exceed 200G, signal attenuation increases after passing through longer copper paths such as ABF substrates, PCBs, and connectors, leading the industry to develop shorter copper paths and longer optical paths. In terms of packaging architecture, the optical engine is currently laid out on the substrate, and the next step is expected to place CPO in the intermediary layer, with future possibilities of using SoIC technology to achieve 3D vertical integration of photonic integrated circuits (PIC) and ASICs. Industry players indicate that CPO still needs to overcome challenges in packaging, optical coupling, and testing before mass production can be achieved.

first_img Micron grants the highest bonuses in history, and the Taiwan union states it will continue to push for strikes

Micron announced today that it will distribute 2026 fiscal year bonuses to over 60,000 employees worldwide to acknowledge the company's achievements this year, marking the highest bonuses in Micron's history. Taiwan is a key hub for Micron's global technology leadership, with approximately 15,000 employees and a cumulative investment of over NT$1.6 trillion. In Taiwan, the 2026 fiscal year bonuses include a NT$1 million cash bonus for each employee who joins before August 29, 2025, with subsequent hires receiving bonuses proportionate to their duration of employment; an annual performance bonus that can reach up to 500% of the basic target; and additional stock awards. Production line employees in Taiwan will receive total compensation equivalent to 35 to 68 months of salary. The cash compensation for Micron's employees in Taiwan for the 2026 fiscal year will start at NT$1.7 million; entry-level engineers will have an average cash compensation of NT$2.9 million, with an average total compensation of NT$3.4 million after including stock awards calculated at grant value. The annual performance adjustment stock awards will cover 100%.Regarding Micron's announcement without reaching a consensus with the union, the union stated after collecting member opinions: grassroots members demand institutional reform and equal negotiation, calling for a change in the IPP profit-sharing system to a 15% profit-sharing system, stating that one-time bonuses cannot resolve the issue, and expressing the hope to establish a calculation basis directly linked to the company's actual profits. If there is no response, the union will continue to move towards a strike. The Ministry of Labor stated that it has fully grasped the relevant information and is maintaining close contact with the Taoyuan City Government, the Central Taiwan Science Park Administration, and the Taichung City Government.

Bonk Guy: The Fomo project will complete integration on Arc within a few days

Bonk Guy (Unipcs) posted that Fomo is expected to complete integration within a few days after the launch of the Arc chain, which changes its short-term judgment on Arc. He stated that builders related to Arc have recently contacted early on-chain traders multiple times, indicating their desire to generate early traffic for the new chain through Meme coin activities.Bonk Guy believes that the main opportunities on-chain this cycle are still concentrated in Robinhood, BNB, and Solana, and does not think Arc will become the next mainstream chain. However, he pointed out that Fomo has not yet integrated Hyperliquid, Tron, or TON, all of which have seen Meme assets with market capitalizations exceeding 100 million dollars. Therefore, if Arc connects with Fomo early after its launch, it could bring short-term trading opportunities. He revealed that he has purchased the native token LONG of the main launch platform Long, as well as the top three Meme coins on that platform. His core judgments include: Fomo will integrate Arc, Arc is actively attracting early on-chain traders, and Arc may learn from Robinhood's path of launching ecological growth through Meme activities. Bonk Guy also emphasized that the layout related to Arc is a short-term high-risk experiment and reminded to currently avoid using trading bots like Basedbot and GMGN to prevent significant slippage due to routing to incorrect liquidity pools.

Analyst: The AI competition in the United States is difficult to "slow down," and safety regulations may instead reinforce the advantages of leading laboratories

Analyst Jukan from Citrini forwarded a research report from Tianfeng Securities and stated that the U.S. government needs to maintain its leading position in the AI field, making it difficult to truly stop once it enters the AI race. Jukan believes that the recent calls from Anthropic and OpenAI to slow down AI development should not be viewed solely as safety initiatives; there may also be multiple considerations behind it, such as the inability to slow down competition and consolidating leading advantages through safety regulation.Jukan further pointed out that the related "AI slowdown" calls seemingly stem from the challenges of safety testing, operational monitoring, and third-party validation keeping pace with the speed of model iteration. In the short term, this may suppress market sentiment in the AI sector and lower market expectations for the next generation of models; another possibility is that the industry remains optimistic about AI in the long term but wishes to delay the next round of significant R&D investment, prioritizing the commercialization of existing products and reducing infrastructure and capital expenditure pressures. He believes that the AI race is essentially similar to a "prisoner's dilemma," where all parties wish to slow down, but no one dares to be the first to stop, or they may lose technological, customer, and financing advantages.Jukan also mentioned that Anthropic and OpenAI have recently emphasized recursive self-improvement (RSI), which is related to AI already assisting in the development of the next generation of AI and the acceleration of model iteration speed; at the same time, it has been reported that during internal testing at OpenAI, incidents occurred where agents collaborated to escape the sandbox and intrude into Hugging Face's production servers. Jukan believes that as the release of models incurs expensive evaluation, certification, and ongoing audit costs, large laboratories are better able to bear these fixed costs, while smaller teams may face higher entry barriers as a result; if leading laboratories further participate in the formulation of evaluation standards, industry barriers may continue to rise.
