layer2

Layer 2 refers to scaling solutions built on top of the blockchain main chain (Layer 1), aimed at improving the transaction throughput and efficiency of blockchain networks while reducing transaction costs. Layer 2 technology reduces the burden on the main chain by moving most transaction processing off-chain, with common implementations including state channels, sidechains, and Rollups. Layer 2 solutions significantly enhance the scalability of blockchains without sacrificing decentralization and security, making them suitable for scenarios such as payments and smart contract execution.

first_img The Soneium project supported by Sony plans to issue a native token

Sony-supported Ethereum Layer 2 network Soneium plans to issue its native token $SONEIUM to connect entertainment creators, intellectual property holders, builders, fans, and investors. The plan was announced on October 26, 2026, with the core focus on tokenizing intellectual property, covering products such as royalty-backed assets, entertainment investments, and automated revenue sharing. The network is developed by Sony's blockchain division, Sony Block Solutions Labs.Soneium states that tokenizing intellectual property is used to represent the future economic value of creative works on-chain, allowing creators to raise funds from fans and investors and share commercial profits through automated revenue sharing. The related tokens can represent creators, studios, or individual works, taking the form of collectibles for fan activities or fungible tokens circulating within the intellectual property economy. The Soneium Portal is positioned as an entry point for the discovery, issuance, and investment of intellectual property, with royalties automatically paid through smart contracts. IP Vault aims to support royalty-backed assets and provide indirect participation in opportunities such as music catalog funds; IP Bonds will be supported by the entertainment business. The first projects focus on Asian pop culture, with partners including Super State Holdings and DayOneDream's WAVIST platform. The former starts with the character Moriusa, while the latter targets concert business royalties through WAVIST, involving artists such as BTOB and Lee Chae-yeon.The Soneium mainnet will go live on January 14, 2025, based on Optimism's OP Stack, with transaction fees paid in ETH, and the stablecoin USDSC has been used for settlement. It hosts over 250 applications, with approximately $9.38 million locked in the applications. Sony invested $13 million in early 2025 to infrastructure partner Startale Labs.

first_img Robinhood Chain evaluates the paid trading ranking system, with technical support from Arbitrum

According to CoinDesk, the Layer 2 blockchain Robinhood Chain, designed for tokenizing real-world financial assets, is evaluating a transaction sorting system that allows users to pay fees for prioritizing specific transactions. This technology is developed by Arbitrum, the infrastructure provider for Robinhood Chain. Insiders say that Arbitrum's previously launched paid transaction sorting technology, Time Boost, could provide users with a 200-millisecond prioritization advantage, but it was replaced on September 24 by the new Priority Gas Auctions model, which allows traders to pay higher fees to prioritize individual transactions. This new version is what Robinhood Chain is currently evaluating.Currently, Robinhood Chain employs a first-come, first-served transaction sorting strategy and has not yet utilized Arbitrum's original Time Boost application. Since launching its Ethereum-compatible network in July, Robinhood Chain has rapidly gained popularity and has entered the top ten blockchains ranked by total locked value. Robinhood's traditional brokerage business has long profited through "payment for order flow," where market makers pay brokers for the routing rights of customer orders. The mechanism of on-chain paid transaction prioritization operates differently; it provides advantages to traders by accelerating transaction processing speeds, helping professional institutions compete for fleeting trading opportunities.
