first_img Robinhood's third-quarter revenue fell short of expectations, with both event contracts and cryptocurrency income increasing month-over-month

The trading platform Robinhood announced its third-quarter financial report, with revenue of $1.42 billion, slightly below Wall Street's expectation of about $1.43 billion; earnings per share were $0.51, lower than the expected $0.55 and also down from $0.61 in the same period last year. Net profit was $476 million, a year-on-year decrease of 14% and a quarter-on-quarter decrease of 17%. This quarter included an unrealized loss of $67 million from Robinhood Ventures Fund I, equivalent to $0.07 per share; adjusted earnings per share were $0.60, a year-on-year decrease of 3%. After the financial report was released, the stock price fell in after-hours trading, closing at about $94.61 on Tuesday, a cumulative decline of about 18% for the year.By business segment, event contract revenue increased from $156 million in the second quarter to $173 million, with customer trading volume reaching a record 16.4 billion contracts, more than seven times that of the same period last year. Cryptocurrency trading revenue rebounded from $100 million in the second quarter to $120 million, but was down 55% from $268 million in the third quarter of 2025; this quarter's cryptocurrency trading volume was $50 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 38%, with $21 billion from in-app and $29 billion from its acquired exchange Bitstamp.Robinhood narrowed its guidance for adjusted operating expenses and equity incentive costs for 2026 to $2.675 billion to $2.75 billion, lowering the previous upper limit of $2.775 billion. A few hours before the financial report was released, the company announced a partnership with Ripple to introduce the stablecoin RLUSD to Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp, with plans to launch it in-app later this year; RLUSD has a market capitalization of over $2.5 billion, and Ripple will also provide fund management software and lending services for Bitstamp traders. Robinhood Chain went live as a Layer 2 network on July 1, generating about $3.13 million in fees within 30 days as of the end of August, surpassing Ethereum and Base.

first_img Tom Wan: Robinhood Chain first quarter transaction fees 51.1 million USD

Tom Wan, the data director at Entropy Advisors, stated that the transaction fees for Robinhood Chain will be included in the third quarter financial report to be released tomorrow. He mentioned that the transaction fees for the first quarter of this chain amounted to 51.1 million USD, which is about half of Robinhood's second quarter cryptocurrency trading revenue, and he is paying attention to whether the company will describe this chain as infrastructure for other businesses or as an independent source of income.Tom Wan noted that the average daily transaction fees in October have dropped to about 52,000 USD, with the decline primarily due to pricing. The increase in fees in late August was attributed to gas congestion, with the average transaction fee rising from 0.002 USD to 0.298 USD, and weekly trading volume increasing by 7.5%. On September 1 and September 3, Robinhood raised the gas target from 18 million per second to 40 million, and gas prices have returned to the lower limit of 0.02 gwei.He also mentioned that by the end of the third quarter, USDG on Robinhood Chain was 693 million USD, compared to 101 million USD on July 1; estimating based on a roughly 3.5% share and an average scale of 427 million USD for the third quarter, the quarter's revenue was about 3.8 million USD, which annualizes to about 24 million USD based on the current scale of 674 million USD. There are 195,000 stock token holders, and last week the DEX trading volume was about 700 million USD. In the second quarter, the cryptocurrency trading volumes for Bitstamp and the Robinhood App were 22.1 billion USD and 18.3 billion USD, respectively, and he stated that there is currently no public data indicating how much of that is related to this chain.

first_img Bybit plans to enter the U.S. market through a partnership with a brokerage, targeting Robinhood

According to CoinDesk, Bybit CEO Ben Zhou stated that Bybit plans to collaborate with local established companies when entering the U.S. market to challenge platforms like Robinhood in market coverage. Zhou mentioned that seeking partners is a standard practice for Bybit when entering new regions, and the U.S. market may consider collaborating with companies like Interactive Brokers (IB).He said, "At this stage, it is best to partner with those who wish to enter the crypto space and already have a customer base in the U.S., such as IB or similar companies that have not yet ventured into crypto but have a quality U.S. customer base."Bybit is the second-largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world by trading volume, with over 80 million registered users in more than 180 countries and regions. The exchange is continuously acquiring licenses globally to offer a range of new regulated products. In Europe, Bybit plans to launch a "super app" covering derivatives and tokenized stocks as early as the first quarter of next year. Through partnerships, Bybit can avoid the cumbersome process of applying for money transfer licenses state by state like Coinbase, which can take two to three years.Zhou suggested waiting for the Clarity Act to pass or for a clearer understanding of new laws, at which point the SEC may provide unified regulation, allowing a single license to cover federal levels. He also pointed out that the U.S. market is highly competitive and becoming saturated, with Coinbase's position solidifying and Robinhood's importance rising. In contrast, the UK remains a less concentrated and underdeveloped market, but the entry costs are high, comparable to the EU's MiCA license.Zhou revealed that earlier this year, he was invited to meet with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and relevant institutions in the House of Lords. Bybit is looking for an office location in London but has not yet determined a specific site.
