first_img Block applies to establish the National Trust Bank, Builders Bank, to custody Bitcoin and stablecoins

Jack Dorsey's payment company Block has applied to establish Builders Bank & Trust, N.A. If approved, the bank will become an uninsured national trust bank directly regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), focusing on providing custody and trust services for Bitcoin and stablecoins, without accepting deposits or issuing loans. The application is still pending OCC approval, and the OCC's public list of digital asset license applications currently includes 11 pending applications (submitted between February 23 and August 19), which does not yet include Builders Bank. Previously, the OCC conditionally approved five national trust applications in December 2025, including Circle's First National Digital Currency Bank and Ripple, as well as conversion applications from BitGo, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Paxos; Circle received final approval in July of this year. The Bank Policy Institute (BPI), representing large banks, had previously opposed a series of limited-purpose national trust license applications, arguing that companies should not obtain trust licenses unless they plan to operate a true trust company, and warned against using the license as a lightly regulated pathway for bank-like products. Block stated that Builders Bank will not begin operations until it receives the necessary regulatory approvals.

first_img Members of the Abu Dhabi royal family are reported to support a cryptocurrency banking project associated with Trump

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal citing informed sources, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family, is the backer behind StringZ Holding RSC, which holds a 49% stake in WLTC Holdings, the parent company of World Liberty Financial, associated with the Trump family, which is proposing a U.S. trust bank. It is said that entities linked to the Trump family hold an additional 38% stake in the company. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted preliminary conditional approval to World Liberty Trust Company on August 14. The decision announced by the OCC confirms that StringZ is an investor in WLTC Holdings and has signed a commitment not to interfere with the bank, but does not specify Tahnoon as its backer or disclose his shareholding percentage. The trust bank must meet OCC's pre-operational requirements and obtain final approval before it can begin operations.Tahnoon previously supported the acquisition of a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial for $500 million, prompting U.S. Democratic senators to call for hearings on the deal and investigate whether it affects U.S. policy towards the UAE. Tahnoon currently serves as the UAE's National Security Advisor and is also the chairman of the artificial intelligence company G42. Cointelegraph reached out to the Trump Organization for comment, but had not received a response by the time of publication.

first_img Data: Short-term Bitcoin holders are at a loss of 6%, pressure exists but a capitulation sell-off has not yet occurred

CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler Jr stated that short-term holders (STH) of Bitcoin are currently at a loss relative to their entry cost, but the realized loss is limited, and there are no signs of large-scale selling or capitulation in the market. The STH MVRV is approximately maintained at 0.94, remaining below the 1.0 parity level for 98 consecutive days, corresponding to over three months of sustained unrealized losses. This group has a realized price of about $67,300, while the spot price is around $63,200, with an average unrealized loss of about 6%. The price still stands above the -1σ support level of $59,300, with a deeper pressure zone at -2σ located at $49,200, showing a controllable pullback rather than structural damage. In terms of behavioral indicators, the STH SOPR (7-day moving average) is running at about 0.996, slightly below 1.0, indicating that this group is on average realizing small losses, but the losses are shallow and close to the breakeven line. The indicator has recently fluctuated narrowly between 0.996 and 1.002, briefly touching 1.0 on August 10 before retreating, with no signs of a deep selling wave. MVRV and SOPR corroborate each other: short-term holders are under pressure and realizing small losses, but this has not evolved into panic selling.Analysis points out that an upward recovery requires SOPR to stabilize above 1.0 and MVRV to rise above 1.0 (with the spot price breaking above the realized price of about $67,300); the downside risk lies in losing the $59,300 -1σ support and extending towards $49,200, while SOPR further weakens. The current structure is still supported, with pressure present but no signs of capitulation selling yet.
