first_img OpenAI Chief Scientist says AI may continue to rise rapidly to recursive self-improvement

OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki published an article titled "An Alien Mind" on September 6, 2026. The article reviews the results of the RLSlow research project, which emerged in mid-2023, demonstrating the first scalable training of reasoning models. It states that three years later, reasoning language models have become part of rapid economic growth, beginning to push scientific boundaries, capable of operating computers and graphical interfaces, collaborating with humans and other AIs on research projects, while also changing the landscape of computer security and introducing new dangers. The author anticipates that the current pace of progress may continue towards recursive self-improvement based on internal results. If AI development continues along the current path, systems may experience equivalent or greater leaps in capability in the coming years, increasingly driving their own development. The author calls for extreme caution, believing that no one is prepared to deal with the consequences of the rapid rise of machine intelligence. OpenAI will continue to seek technical solutions for alignment and monitoring, build defensive systems, and unilaterally halt further scaling when necessary, but believes broader intervention is needed. The article states that machine intelligence is primarily driven by increased computational power, with AI growing more than being designed. In terms of alignment, it distinguishes between goal alignment and value alignment, with the core challenge being generalization. GPT-6 Astra shows significantly better alignment than GPT-5.6 Sol, but more progress is still needed. In monitoring, the focus is mainly on chain-of-thought monitoring, with assessments showing that reliance on capabilities is gradually weakening. In terms of scalable defense, models are becoming superhuman in breaking into computer systems, currently in a narrow window where using the best available models significantly enhances the security of critical systems.

first_img Ripple and Coincheck have successively launched digital asset custody cooperation in Asia

According to Cointelegraph, Ripple announced a partnership with digital asset infrastructure company SettleMint to provide tokenized asset custody and management solutions for financial institutions. Ripple's institutional-grade digital asset custody infrastructure, Ripple Custody, will integrate with SettleMint's Digital Asset Lifecycle Platform (DALP), covering the entire lifecycle of tokens and simplifying the custody process for institutions.Just the day before, digital asset service provider Coincheck Group announced a partnership with wallet infrastructure company DFNS to build digital asset wallet technology and custody services in Japan. DFNS's wallet-as-a-service can provide institutions with complete transaction lifecycle management, including workflow orchestration and governance controls, and supports over 100 blockchain networks. Both collaborations aim to build more institutional-grade digital asset infrastructure to address the barriers for traditional financial institutions entering the crypto space. The 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index released by Chainalysis shows that on-chain crypto activity in the Asia-Pacific region has the fastest growth rate in the world, with a year-on-year increase of 69%. Currently, several Asian countries are formulating their own cryptocurrency regulatory frameworks. The bill passed in Japan in July classifies crypto assets as financial assets under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act. Japan's Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki previously expressed a desire to bring crypto assets under the same regulatory framework as traditional financial assets.

first_img The prediction market platform Kalshi becomes the exclusive partner of the US Open

According to Front Office Sports, the prediction market platform Kalshi has signed an exclusive agreement with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to become the exclusive prediction market platform partner for the US Open. The agreement is effective immediately and was finalized only after the qualification rounds ended last week, with the report not disclosing financial terms. Kalshi has not yet been listed among the official partners of the US Open, and a blog post analyzing the women's singles events released earlier by the company included a statement saying that the company "is not affiliated with the US Open or WTA."According to sources, as part of the agreement, the USTA is preventing other prediction market platforms from advertising at US Open venues and on television, including ESPN's broadcasts of the events, which is an unusual aspect of the agreement. Kalshi declined to comment, and representatives from USTA and ESPN did not respond immediately. The US Open is owned and operated by the USTA, and its CEO Craig Tiley took office on July 20 of this year, playing a significant role in facilitating this year's event agreement. Both Kalshi and Polymarket are official partners of the NHL, and Kalshi has recently partnered with several MLB teams. According to data from The Block, since August, the total trading volume for Kalshi, Polymarket, and Polymarket US has reached $41.2 billion, with Kalshi accounting for $33.7 billion.
