The cryptocurrency industry has invested approximately $176 million to support allies in the U.S. midterm elections, laying the groundwork for the post-Trump era

The cryptocurrency industry has spent approximately $176 million in this round of the U.S. midterm election cycle, covering over 100 elections, aiming to establish a bipartisan network of congressional allies to continue advancing legislative demands after Trump's departure. As of October 20, the super political action committee Fairshake and its affiliated organizations have spent about $150.8 million, with other cryptocurrency organizations spending around $25 million, major funders including Coinbase, Ripple, and a16z.Fairshake claims that among the 58 candidates it supported in primaries or special elections this year, 53 won. The organization supported bipartisan candidates in the House elections; after Senate Democrats blocked the CLARITY Act from reaching a final vote, it decided to support only Republican candidates in the Senate elections. The industry's spending in the Ohio Senate election has exceeded $68 million, focusing on long-time critic of the cryptocurrency industry Sherrod Brown, with related advertisements mostly avoiding mentioning cryptocurrencies and instead focusing on issues like taxes. Pushing for the passage of the CLARITY Act is a core goal of the industry, but the bill has stalled in this Congress. JPMorgan analysts indicate that without the bill, rules set by regulators during Trump's term may be overturned by subsequent administrations.

Cryptocurrency casino Gamdom was extorted by the organization Whitearmor for a ransom of 15 million dollars in Bitcoin

According to Bitcoin.com, the cyber extortion group Whitearmor claimed on October 26 that it had stolen 15,420,003 account records from the crypto casino Gamdom, with each account containing 146 data fields, and demanded a payment of 15 million dollars in Bitcoin, or else they would expose sensitive customer information. The group has published a JSON sample of about 437KB, containing approximately 100 records as so-called evidence on its ransom website, claiming that the cumulative profits corresponding to these accounts exceed 1 billion dollars, but did not specify how this was calculated. It is reported that the attackers exploited an internal machine account with administrator privileges that had not rotated its credentials for a long time.Previously, Gamdom suffered a hot wallet attack on October 13, with founder Felix Römer admitting losses exceeding 3 million dollars, and blockchain researcher vxdb estimating the stolen amount across multiple networks to be about 4.2 million dollars. After suspending operations, the platform resumed on October 16, stating that user balances were unaffected. Gamdom disputed the scale of 15.4 million accounts but acknowledged that usernames, email addresses, and gambling activity information may have been exposed, while stating that verification documents were not affected.

first_img Visser Labs Founder: Cryptocurrency Assets May Outperform AI Stocks

According to Cointelegraph, Jordi Visser, founder of Visser Labs, former Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, and Chief Investment Officer at Weiss, stated in the Cointelegraph podcast "Trade Secrets" that crypto assets may yield better returns from the AI boom than AI stocks. He believes that AI entities are creating demand for crypto payments and tokenized assets, stating, "Without AI, the crypto market will not emerge from this bull market."Visser compared AI entities to the App Store or smartphones in the crypto industry, where users can instruct the entities to execute financial operations such as trades on their behalf. He also cautioned about risks: if AI experiences a severe downturn and drags down the stock market, it could cause the crypto market to retest previous lows, but it would not end the bull market. He mentioned that the "fireworks show" of AI has ended, not the end of AI itself, and investors should lower their expectations for returns from AI stocks. In terms of holdings, as of August, Visser only held Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, and then began buying a broader range of tokens, with Bitcoin still being his largest position. He is watching Dogecoin as a signal of retail enthusiasm returning and maintains an equally weighted index composed of 42 tokens and 4 publicly traded stocks, which has outperformed Bitcoin since June. He has also positioned himself in privacy themes, believing that Zcash and Monero align with his investment logic.

first_img Binance applies for a cryptocurrency license in Brazil and will delist 22 assets

Binance has submitted a cryptocurrency service provider license application to the Central Bank of Brazil through its local entity BBrasil, in order to maintain its operations in one of the largest cryptocurrency markets in Latin America before the regulatory deadline of October 30. The application was submitted on October 23, and the company stated that this will allow Brazilian users to continue accessing cryptocurrency assets, stablecoin trading, payment, and investment services.Meanwhile, Binance announced that changes for Brazilian users will take effect on Tuesday, including restrictions on crypto lending, margin trading, and other services, and will delist 22 cryptocurrency assets in the country. Thiago Sarandy, General Manager of Binance Brazil, stated that the company supports the consideration of regulated markets for virtual asset characteristics and hopes that ongoing dialogue with the Central Bank of Brazil will enable it to offer other products that were suspended to comply with current regulations in the near future.According to the regulations of the Central Bank of Brazil, existing cryptocurrency service providers must submit authorization applications by October 30 to continue operating under transitional arrangements. However, submitting an application does not equate to obtaining regulatory approval; Binance still needs to wait for the official review results from the Central Bank of Brazil to determine whether its local business can operate in full compliance.
