China's largest DRAM manufacturer Changxin Storage (CXMT) has recently launched a bidding for equipment from partners for its new factory in Shanghai and is advancing capacity expansion in multiple locations. CXMT is currently mass-producing DRAM in Hefei Phase II and Beijing Phase I, with an estimated capacity of about 200,000 wafers per month, which may exceed 300,000 wafers per month by the end of the year.CXMT plans to open the new factory in Shanghai in the fourth quarter of this year, and the related equipment bidding has already started. Semiconductor equipment industry insiders say that the factory is planned to be expanded in two phases, with capacity significantly exceeding 100,000 wafers per month. Subsequently, there are plans to open a new factory in Hefei in the first half of next year and the earliest new factory in Beijing in the second half of next year, with another new factory in Hefei opening in the first half of the year after next.Equipment industry insiders say that CXMT has communicated with multiple parties regarding the timing of building factories in various locations. If all plans are realized, CXMT could add at least 70,000 to 80,000 wafers of capacity per month each year from this year until 2028, with a long-term goal of exceeding 600,000 wafers per month. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix's DRAM capacities are estimated at about 700,000 wafers and 600,000 wafers per month, respectively.

first_img Morpho will expand the fixed-rate Midnight market to Ethereum

According to The Defiant, the decentralized lending protocol Morpho deployed its fixed-term, fixed-rate lending agreement Midnight to Ethereum on September 8, expanding the product from the Base network to Ethereum, allowing Ethereum users to access USDC loans collateralized by WBTC or cbBTC. Morpho co-founder Merlin Egalite stated that the Ethereum launch will start with the "USDC | cbBTC and USDC | WBTC markets" and will gradually expand. The core difference between Midnight and Morpho Blue lies in interest rate certainty. Blue uses open loans where interest rates fluctuate according to a formula; Midnight, on the other hand, trades credit units at market-priced rates with fixed terms, allowing borrowers to determine financing costs in advance, and lenders can lock in returns instead of bearing interest rate changes with each block. Midnight lenders purchase credit units at prices below the one-to-one redemption value at maturity. However, the largest potential source of funds for Midnight remains constrained. The Morpho Vaults, holding approximately $5 billion in deposits, can only allocate to the Morpho Blue market until the DAO enables the Midnight configuration. Morpho co-founder and CEO Paul Frambot stated that enabling the Vault configuration requires just one DAO transaction, but Vault activation is expected to be achieved in the fourth quarter. At launch, the total deposits in the Ethereum Midnight market were approximately $7.41 million, with outstanding loans of about $2.63 million.

first_img Brazilian Bank Expands Cryptocurrency Services, Regulatory Framework Takes Shape

Brazilian banks are expanding their cryptocurrency services for customers. According to Folha de S.Paulo, Brazil's largest asset management bank, Itaú, now offers 15 types of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the US dollar stablecoin USDC, through its investment app. Brazil's largest fintech company, Nubank, has listed 28 types, and Banco do Brasil, the most profitable state-owned bank in Brazil, has seen transaction volumes exceed 11 million reais (approximately 2.1 million USD) since launching direct purchase services for Bitcoin and Ethereum in January of this year. However, customer cryptocurrency transactions have not entered the banks' balance sheets. A document from the central bank dated March 2026 shows that Brazilian banks hold zero virtual assets on their books. Over the past year, Itaú, Bradesco, Santander, Banco do Brasil, and Nubank have all expanded their cryptocurrency product lines, while the Brazilian cryptocurrency market has also reached record sizes. According to data from the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service, Receita Federal, Brazilians transferred 505.5 billion reais (approximately 98.7 billion USD) through cryptocurrencies in 2025, more than five times that of 2020, with corporate transactions accounting for 98.3%.This move by banks coincides with the implementation of regulations. In 2022, Brazil passed the "Virtual Asset Legal Framework," granting regulatory authority to the central bank. Three resolutions issued in November 2025 require any institution allowing customers to trade, hold, or send cryptocurrencies to obtain a license, meet minimum capital requirements, and segregate customer accounts, with a compliance deadline of October 30, 2026.
