first_img Cloudflare and OpenAI pilot, ChatGPT indexes hundreds of millions of new web pages

In July 2026, the internet infrastructure company Cloudflare launched a research pilot with OpenAI to test whether Cloudflare's network signals could help ChatGPT users discover new content more efficiently. Both parties reported positive early results, with the pilot incorporating previously unknown pages into OpenAI's search index, providing ChatGPT with more sources to reference. The pilot utilized about 1% of Cloudflare's global participation queue, allowing OpenAI to discover and index hundreds of millions of new web pages. OpenAI independently evaluated and ranked these pages based on relevance and usefulness, while ChatGPT Search enabled users to view original content and publishers through backlinks. Observations indicated that automated traffic might make non-existent pages appear noteworthy, with some sites redirecting arbitrary addresses to their homepage and others pointing to duplicate content. Both parties are also testing signals to identify potentially harmful pages, such as fake login pages embedded on legitimate sites, advocating for the marking of single pages rather than entire domains.Related signals are also used to filter out non-existent or redirecting pages and to assess whether unchanged pages are worth revisiting. Page signals do not constitute access permission; the study utilized web metadata for search and discovery rather than using page content for model training. Site owners can understand and manage how AI systems access their websites through Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control. The next phase will improve page selection and test faster, more reliable change signals.

According to The Defiant, the on-chain insurance protocol Firelight based on the Flare network announced on October 15 that its on-chain insurance has launched the Protected Strategies USDC vault for Kraken DeFi Earn, providing a collateral-backed compensation mechanism for specific protocol failures. The independent manager of the vault, Sentora, insures the vault rather than Kraken itself. Depositors do not need to actively choose to participate, but the insurance comes with conditions: Kraken discloses that the compensation limit for each deposit address during each insurance period is $100,000, and the total compensation amount is also constrained by the overall vault limit and available capital. Compensation is issued by Sentora in USDC to eligible wallets, and Kraken does not provide funds or guarantees.Firelight lists six types of failures that are eligible for compensation: smart contract vulnerabilities, oracle failures, governance attacks, and bad debts, depegging, or redemption failures caused by protocol mechanism failures. Insurance only applies to markets and positions recorded during the insurance period. Normal fluctuations, normal liquidations, depegging that operates as designed during redemption, and withdrawal delays caused by high organic utilization are excluded; insider theft, stolen private keys, phishing, and regulatory actions are also not covered. The trigger conditions for redemption failure are if the insured position cannot be withdrawn for more than 72 consecutive hours, or if the amount returned after deducting disclosed fees is less than 90% of fair value. Compensation does not require depositors to file claims themselves, as it is determined by a five-member risk committee through a three-fifths majority vote.On-chain records show that the insurance scale marked as "Kraken DeFi Protected" is $30.5 million.

Cloudflare launches AI proxy wallet, supporting autonomous payment API for agents

According to official news, Cloudflare announced the launch of Cloudflare Wallets, providing payment and identity infrastructure for AI Agents.Cloudflare stated that currently, when AI Agents attempt new APIs, they typically need to go through registration, login, payment, and API key generation processes designed for humans. This lack of stable identity and native payment capabilities makes it difficult for agents to autonomously explore and compare different services, limiting the development of agent commerce. The newly launched wallet system aims to address this issue, allowing AI Agents to more conveniently purchase APIs, content, and other digital services.Cloudflare Wallets will support two modes: Account Wallets and Virtual Wallets. Among them, Account Wallets are aimed at individual and business users, allowing them to recharge, manage funds, and allocate budgets for AI Agents; Virtual Wallets are specifically designed for AI Agents, operating through API keys and allowing users to set spending limits, whitelists, and single transaction caps as security rules, enabling agents to autonomously call APIs and purchase services within a controlled range. In addition, Cloudflare Wallets will support stablecoin storage, micropayments based on the x402 protocol, and will integrate with Cloudflare's previously launched Monetization Gateway, providing automated trading capabilities for websites and applications aimed at AI Agents.Cloudflare stated that the future internet will gradually form a new "agent economy" driven by AI Agents, where wallets, payments, and identity verification will become key infrastructure. Through the cloudflare.pay identity identifier, AI Agents can obtain a readable identity name, helping merchants identify their associated accounts and organizations while enhancing transaction transparency.Cloudflare claims it will continue to improve the agent commerce ecosystem, providing developers and businesses with the foundational tools to support AI Agents in autonomously purchasing, selling, and interacting, promoting the transition of the internet from a human-oriented service model to an agent-oriented automated market.
