first_img Samsung Electro-Mechanics and LG Innotek advance Intel's EMIB-T substrate supply

According to a report by ZDNet Korea on the 9th, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and LG Innotek are advancing into the Intel EMIB-T packaging substrate supply chain, with related product development and testing already underway. EMIB connects chips with small silicon bridges, which Intel previously used mainly for its own chips; the improved EMIB-T is expanding external sales. The next-generation AI accelerator TPU that Google plans to launch in the second half of next year will be the first to use EMIB-T. EMIB-T inserts silicon vias for power transmission within the silicon bridge.Insiders say that Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed EMIB substrate samples over the years and is currently advancing EMIB-T supply based on the 2.1D packaging substrate concept. Recently, LG Innotek delivered EMIB-T packaging substrates to SK Hynix for sample testing, and both parties are installing HBM on the substrate to evaluate product characteristics.Currently, EMIB-T packaging substrates are supplied by Japan's Ibiden, Shinkawa Electric, Taiwan's Xinxing Electronics, and Austria's AT&S. Ibiden has decided to utilize idle factories to construct a dedicated production line for Intel's EMIB-T substrates, with an investment scale of about 20 trillion Korean won, and it is reported that they have already received advance payments from Google, Amazon, Intel, and others.

According to DIGITIMES, the NB supply chain has reported that brand manufacturers are significantly returning to production in China, with "returning to China for production" becoming a new trend. Brands such as HP, ASUS, and Acer have recently noticeably reduced their originally planned capacity shifts to Southeast Asia, with production focus returning to Chongqing or Kunshan in China, and increasing orders to Chinese ODM or EMS manufacturers and the proportion of private label products. This involves production lines at Quanta, Inventec's Thailand factories, and Compal, Wistron’s Vietnam factories, which may be affected by customer transfers. Lenovo, Dell, and Apple, on the other hand, remain relatively unchanged.The supply chain indicates that after the U.S. equivalent tariffs were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, the impact of substitute tariffs is smaller, and the production costs for NB in Southeast Asia are on average $9 higher per unit than in China. The gross profit margin for brand manufacturers per unit of NB is mostly between 3% to 10%. Based on a low-priced model with an average price of about $300, the $9 difference is close to or even exceeds their profit, resulting in unprofitable shipments. Local Chinese governments are also demanding increased production due to reduced tax revenues, or they will reclaim past subsidies, creating a pull for returning production.Relevant ODM personnel stated that they will respect customer decisions, and if they cannot take on a single product, they will shift production locally to servers and other product lines such as networking. Lenovo is more cautious due to its diversified layout, with limited relocation; Dell has not significantly returned due to the high proportion of U.S. government orders; Apple targets the high-end market and promotes automation, with the main reason for relocating MacBook production from Shanghai being the pandemic-related supply chain disruptions, and its plans in Vietnam remain unchanged to date.

According to "DuJia," DingTalk is advancing a brand new AI office application QwenNote (Qianwen Listening Note). This application is positioned as an AI personal assistant, integrating real-time voice transcription, summarization, and translation through a combination of software and hardware, and deeply integrating with AI Agent, embedding Agent capabilities into voice input, promoting a shift from simple recording to automated execution. The application supports real-time transcription and bilingual recognition in Chinese and English, as well as language switching, and can generate structured meeting minutes, outlines, and to-do lists, with built-in AI Q&A and quick commands based on listening materials.QwenNote offers a voice memo function, requiring a QR code scan to connect to the recording device. By long-pressing the button on the back of the device, users can record inspirations, and once the recording is complete, it will automatically archive, generate a title and brief summary, and timestamp it. The product also features a stealth protection mode, which, when activated, will physically delete the original audio and only retain the transcribed text to accommodate confidential scenarios. The associated hardware QwenNote A2 has already been showcased, which is part of the Qianwen Listening Note hardware ecosystem, which also includes DingTalk A1, DingTalk A1 Pro, Cleer H1, etc., and users can complete the binding by scanning a QR code.Reports indicate that DingTalk hopes to complement the offline voice collection entry through the integration of software and hardware, forming a closed loop of on-site audio collection, real-time bilingual transcription, AI meeting minutes Q&A, and DingTalk organizational collaboration. Listening materials can be synchronized to DingTalk AI Listening Note and support personal private isolation. On the software side, it continues to embed large models into documents, meetings, and IM scenarios, while on the hardware side, it expands the Qianwen Listening Note product line. Relevant hardware has not yet been widely publicly searched for more formal release information.
