As Meta's personal AI agent Muse receives the highest rating from JPMorgan and gains significant momentum, OpenAI is accelerating the launch of a resident AI assistant named "o" to directly confront the increasingly fierce competition in the AI agent space.
According to technology media wccftech, it is reported that OpenAI has added the brand logo of "o" in the documentation related to ChatGPT Pro products, and the official release is imminent, expected to debut at the Dev Day event on Tuesday (September 29).

This move is widely interpreted as a direct response to Meta Muse's recent strong performance—JPMorgan has ranked Meta Muse as the top AI agent in its latest Assistant Benchmark evaluation.
The Dev Day will also bring more heavyweight news: OpenAI is expected to simultaneously launch a new subscription tier, ChatGPT Pro Max, priced at up to $500 per month, focusing on ultra-fast response experiences. Meanwhile, "o" is rumored to work in conjunction with an upcoming consumer-grade AI hardware device from OpenAI that resembles a donut and is equipped with moving parts, further expanding its product ecosystem.
"o": Always Online, Targeting Long Task Scenarios
Reports indicate that in response to the challenge posed by Muse, OpenAI's solution is to launch a product positioned as a "resident AI assistant"—"o."
Currently, public information is limited, but @synthwavedd posted on social platform X, stating that "o" will be powered by a specific variant of GPT-6 Astra called "Aeon," which is said to excel in handling long-running tasks—this is precisely a core capability that an efficient personal AI agent must possess.

In terms of competition, "o" faces more than just Muse. OpenAI's entry also targets Grok Bot and Hermes Agent, and under the three-way competition, the intensity of competition in the AI personal assistant space is rapidly escalating.
Dev Day's Dual Strike: New Brand + Premium Subscription
In addition to "o," OpenAI is expected to unveil multiple significant updates at Dev Day, forming a combination attack.
In terms of subscription pricing, OpenAI plans to launch ChatGPT Pro Max, with a monthly fee of up to $500, focusing on ultra-fast response, and it is reported that this performance will be supported by Cerebras' Wafer-Scale Engine, targeting a professional user group with extremely high demands for response speed and performance.

In terms of hardware ecosystem, "o" will also serve as a software companion, deeply integrated with an upcoming consumer-grade AI device from OpenAI. This device is rumored to resemble a donut and may be equipped with moving parts, demonstrating OpenAI's ongoing ambition in the AI hardware field.
Reports indicate that the simultaneous advancement of two product lines shows that OpenAI is attempting to build competitive barriers in both software agents and hardware terminals to respond to multi-faceted pressure from competitors like Meta.
JPMorgan Crowns Muse, OpenAI Faces Increased Pressure
The rise of Meta Muse is the direct trigger for OpenAI's urgent response.
According to JPMorgan's latest Assistant Benchmark evaluation, Meta Muse ranks first among all evaluated AI agents, surpassing several competitors, including OpenAI products. This authoritative endorsement has allowed Muse to continuously attract market attention recently and has, to some extent, seized the pre-release buzz that originally belonged to OpenAI's Dev Day.

Muse is a personal AI agent capable of executing multi-step tasks on behalf of users, with core capabilities including: autonomously opening a cloud browser, browsing the web like a human, and continuing to process tasks in the background even after the user closes the application.
To alleviate privacy concerns, Muse operates within a dedicated isolated cloud virtual machine (VM), equipped with a separate browser for securely storing user data and login credentials.
