first_img Lido Lend plans to launch Fallback Exits to supplement withdrawals with borrower collateral

The lending protocol Lido Lend proposed by contributors will launch a withdrawal mechanism called Fallback Exits. When the market lacks sufficient liquidity of loan assets, lenders can utilize the collateral of borrowers to supplement withdrawal requests, and the corresponding debt of the relevant borrowers will be reduced. The protocol was launched on October 7 as a modified fork of Morpho Blue, built around isolated markets.According to the proposal, the collateral of borrowers will be passively utilized in order of the highest position risk, meaning positions closest to the liquidation loan-to-value ratio (LLTV) will be prioritized, while borrowers with very healthy positions are less likely to be affected. Taking the ETH/wstETH market as an example, lenders provide ETH, and borrowers stake wstETH to borrow ETH; if exiting through collateral, lenders will first be exposed to the staked tokens before receiving ETH. The proposal does not specify the qualification thresholds for healthy loans or the path for lenders to obtain ETH.Contributor Izzy stated in a post on October 16 that technical specifications and market parameters will be announced in the next two weeks, and the governance process and public audit must be completed before the mainnet launch. Details such as settlement valuation, debt offset formulas, fees, and limits have yet to be determined.

first_img Cryptocurrency lending deposits exceed 10 billion USD, regulatory review of lending risks

According to the Financial Times, the deposit scale of crypto lending vaults has surpassed $10 billion, a significant increase from $4 billion at the beginning of last year, reflecting the growing demand from investors for digital asset yield strategies. These vaults operate through smart contracts on decentralized finance platforms, with each vault having a "curator" who effectively acts as an investment manager responsible for selecting lending strategies, setting risk limits, and charging fees. Their yields typically range from 3% to 10%, with riskier strategies yielding up to 20% or even higher. The allure of returns comes with significant risks. Loans may be collateralized by illiquid tokens, crypto-asset-backed stablecoins, or tokenized private credit, and if the collateral depreciates or becomes difficult to sell, depositors will face losses. Automatic liquidation may exacerbate market downturns, while hacking attacks, code errors, and pricing mechanism flaws can introduce additional vulnerabilities. Although publicly accessible smart contracts provide transparency, investors may focus only on surface yields while overlooking their underlying risk exposures. Major depositors currently include fintech companies, digital asset treasury firms, and hedge funds.Bitcoin lending institution Two Prime is one of the companies that recently entered this market. The company launched a Bitcoin lending vault on the Pareto platform in September, targeting an annualized yield of 1.5% to 2% through institutional lending. This vault accepts wrapped Bitcoin, with a minimum deposit of 5 WBTC, and has invested approximately $10 million of its own funds to absorb initial losses. On the regulatory front, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has raised questions regarding the securities held by the vaults, while European regulators have proposed regulating intermediaries that provide access to DeFi.

first_img The XRP Ledger lending code fix is close to taking effect, but the lending amendment still lacks 10 votes

The XRP Ledger vulnerability fix package named fixCleanup3_4_0 is expected to officially take effect around 09:34 UTC on October 23. This fix package has received votes from 29 validators, surpassing the threshold of over 80% approval among the network's default 35 validators, and must be maintained continuously for two weeks. The countdown has been ongoing for nine days. Since there is no margin in the vote count, if any validator withdraws support, the countdown will restart. This fix package partially addresses the unsecured lending system that Ripple has been promoting to banks and payment companies since June, but this system has not yet been activated. Currently, the lending amendment has only 19 votes, and the vault amendment for holding funds has 21 votes, neither of which has started the countdown. Therefore, even if both reach 29 votes today, the lending function will not be available until early November at the earliest. As designed, lenders will deposit XRP or other tokens into the vault, and loan brokers will then lend out the funds for a fixed term. The ledger is responsible for recording the loans and tracking repayments, while brokers assess the borrower's qualifications off-chain. Since borrowers do not need to provide collateral, the broker's judgment becomes the only guarantee for lenders against default losses. Ripple has promoted this scheme to payment companies that need liquidity during cross-border settlement. Additionally, the fix package also closes a vulnerability that allowed accounts authorized to destroy tokens to create new tokens under specific conditions and adjusts the rounding of vault amounts as well as the rules for determining loan overdue and default.
