hot_img SK Hynix will begin mass production of LPDDR6 in the second half of the year, with the first batch supplied to Xiaomi's flagship phones

SK Hynix announced that it will officially begin mass production of 16Gb LPDDR6 low-power mobile DRAM in the second half of this year, with the first products set to be featured in Xiaomi's next-generation flagship smartphone. The product was developed in March and utilizes 10nm class sixth-generation (1c) technology, offering improvements in data processing speed and energy efficiency compared to the previous generation. SK Hynix has been supplying LPDDR products to Xiaomi since 2013, maintaining a long-term partnership.LPDDR is primarily used in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, combining low power consumption with high performance. Recently, driven by demand from AI servers, LPDDR prices have continued to rise, with contract prices increasing steadily, leading to a 64.5% quarter-over-quarter growth in global mobile DRAM revenue in the first quarter. SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics are ahead of Micron in preparing for the mass production of LPDDR6. Additionally, the mass production of LPDDR6 is expected to accelerate competition in the SO-CAMM (low-power memory module) market, which is seen as a complementary solution for AI server CPUs. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang visited the SK Hynix booth at the Taipei International Computer Show in June, leaving a message of "LOVE SOCAMM" for the 192GB SO-CAMM.

hot_img Domestic immersion DUV lithography machines have started small batch production, with plans to deliver about 5 units this year

According to a report by The Information citing informed sources, a Shanghai state-owned company whose name has not been disclosed has begun producing domestically-made immersion DUV lithography machines, planning to manufacture about 5 units this year and increase to about 20 units by 2027. The first batch of equipment will be delivered to major foundries such as SMIC, Hua Hong Semiconductor, and ChangXin Technology, but the equipment still needs to undergo verification for accuracy, stability, and production line compatibility, a process that may take several months or even longer.Currently, most components of the equipment come from domestic sources, but some key parts still rely on Japan, and the performance and manufacturing quality lag behind ASML. In comparison, ASML is set to deliver about 131 immersion DUV lithography machines as early as 2025. Although domestic equipment has made the leap from prototype testing to small-scale production, there is still a significant gap before it can replace ASML on a large scale. Previously, Reuters reported that the U.S. is considering tightening restrictions on the export of lithography equipment to China and on maintenance services in China, and the delivery of domestic equipment coincides with this backdrop.

hot_img Intel and AMD are seeking to sign long-term CPU supply agreements with Chinese server customers, with some product prices increasing by over 40% within the year

According to Reuters, citing informed sources, due to the surge in demand for AI data centers leading to a tight supply of server CPUs, Intel and AMD are negotiating long-term procurement commitments with Chinese server customers. Agreements typically lock in a year's supply, with some discussions extending to two years or longer. Driven by the construction of AI computing power, CPU demand has expanded from AI accelerators to mainstream processors, with some server CPU products in the Chinese market experiencing a cumulative price increase of over 40% this year, with month-on-month increases exceeding 10% at times.Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan stated in April that Xeon server CPU demand "continues to exceed supply," and the company has signed multiple long-term contracts in the first quarter, including a multi-year agreement with Google. AMD has raised its forecast for the server CPU market to exceed $120 billion by 2030. The report notes that China, as one of the largest server markets in the world, is intensifying competition for Intel and AMD processors due to the rapid construction of data centers and AI computing clusters, even as Chinese buyers face U.S. export restrictions on advanced AI GPUs. Intel is set to announce its quarterly results on Thursday, with the CPU shortage expected to become a market focus.

The Japanese Senate passed an amendment to the "Financial Instruments and Exchange Act," officially classifying crypto assets as financial products

According to CoinPost, the Japanese Senate plenary session today passed and established the "Amendment to the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act and the Fund Settlement Act," redefining crypto assets from a means of payment to financial products. Key revisions include: the renaming of crypto asset exchange operators to crypto asset trading operators, increasing the maximum prison term for unregistered sales from under 3 years to under 10 years, and raising fines from under 3 million yen to under 10 million yen; the introduction of regulations against insider trading in crypto assets for the first time, prohibiting trading based on undisclosed important information; and requiring specific crypto asset issuers to disclose information regularly every year.In terms of taxation, it shifts from a maximum comprehensive tax rate of 55% to a separate declaration tax (approximately 20%), allowing losses to be carried forward for 3 years, expected to be implemented from January 1, 2028. The bill also provides a framework for the establishment of crypto asset ETFs, with the Japan Exchange Group expected to promote ETF listings around 2027. After the bill's passage, the next focus will shift to the formulation of specific rules such as government orders and supervisory guidelines, including reserve levels and derivative leverage limits. Compliance costs may pose pressure on small and medium-sized exchanges, but the entry opportunities for asset management companies and banking insurance institutions will expand.
